5 years since surgery - gaining weight
I am new to this site. I had WLS August 5, 2005. Lost about 143lbs. and bottomed out about May 2006. Since that time I have regained about 50lbs. I understood that sometimes a rebound of about 30-40% is normal, however at about 234 I am unhappy with myself and my weight. Luckily I am smart enough face reality and to seek help. I never want to go back again. 323 was not pretty. After my surgery I was transferred by my company from NY to VA where I live and never had the chance to connect with post-WLS groups or get further counseling & education. Now I"m up and I have to get a grip. So I'm looking to be helped, and to help in return. Luckily my PCP has a PA who worked for a WL surgeon and is very familiar of many aspects of what we have been through and are going through. She's been a friendly resource and I am grateful to her. If there are others out there who are in a situation similar to mine will someone please direct me? I want to help and be helped. Few things of this nature can be handled alone. Thank you to anyone who will respond.
Best, Ray

I've regained a lot of weight myself, and being on this site really helps keep me focused.
I've found the following things are helpful:
Journal your intake on sparkpeople.com or fitday.com or another online site.
Try the Five-Day Pouch Test (found by googling that term) and that will help you decarb.
Remove all the white carbs from your house and cupboards. If it's not there, it's not too easy to get to when you get the munchies.
Protein first.
eliminate all cola from your diet.
Restart exercise.
Sipsipsip. Walkwalkwalk.
Good luck!!
