WLS people in general have more problems with gall bladder post op, then the general population.  I'm guessing maybe 200-300% more.  I've heard about 12-15% of RNYers have their gall bladder removed post op.  Some surgeons (years ago...don't quote me on this) removed peoples gall bladder at the same time of RNY.  I asked the local WLS surgeon about this, at the local support group about a year ago.  He said the reason he doesn't do it is because if the person has complications, it would be hard for the hospital and the surgeon to figure out what the problem is...Is it the RNY surgery or complications with the gall bladder removal??  So many surgeons wait and remove it later...for the profit of 2 surgeries...but also to rule out what the problems (post op) really may be.  Just my 2 cents.  Brian

I concur with Cabin.

I asked my surgeon the same thing and he said removing the Gall Bladder is in and of itself a risky surgery. He said we don't remove it just because we're in there.

He said about 20% of post RNY'ers have  to have it removed down the road.
