HOW MANY CALORIES DO YOU EAT??
ok team got a IMPORTANT question...I am 18 months post op; 98 pounds down; gastric bypass and have hit the wall since Nov.... How many calories a day do you 1 year + people eat and how long between bites....I have heard so many different amounts of calories etc etc.... Also my doctor and the support meetings i go to said to wait 10 minutes between bites to allow the food to pass thru my pouch... what amount of time does everybody else wait.... and I have an a call into a nutritionist too but I want to hear it from ya'll thanks
May all your UP'S be in life; and your DOWNS be on the scale!!

Yesterday my count ended at just a tad over 2000. That would be a heavy eating day for me considering it was Sunday and almost all of our meals were eaten outside the home.
I don't wait between bites. I just eat and slow down only if I feel the food getting "stuck". If after a few minutes I feel like I can take another bite, I will.
As an aside, I'm trying to lower my bodyfat for the summer so I'm cutting carbs for the next 3 weeks. Hoping to drop at least 10 pounds of fat if I can.

It seems when the scale gets "stuck", most people on this board talk about upping protein and cutting carbs.... especially simple carbs that have creeped back into their diets.

I agree. Up the protein and calories. I take in about 2100 calories and have gained about 7 lbs back. But I stalled around 20lbs north of goal. I'm satisfied for the most part with a 36" jeans
and a loose fitting large shirt.
I'm going through a divorce and will dropped 15lbs just from the stress.
Good luck

It really depends on where you are in your journey. Even if you are 18 months out, if you are still trying to lose to get down to goal, your calorie count will be different than if you are trying to maintain at 18 months out.
It also depends on your height, build, muscle content, resting metabolic rate and how much exercise you are doing. I had my resting metabolic rate tested and it came in around 1850 calories. So, even if I stayed in bed all day long and didn't do ANYTHING I would burn 1850 calories.
For me, I am 14 months out and I am below goal so I'm in maintenance. I currently eat 2200-2400 calories a day. I wear a GoWear Fit every day and I burn 2300 - 2700 calories per day and I usually shoot for an average of a 100 calorie deficit (i.e. I burn 100 calories more than I eat per day). I have found that is where I hold somewhat steady on my weight.
I exercise 5-6 nights a week. 4 nights are cardio (treadmill interval training -- currently at 3.44 miles per 45 min) and 2 nights are weights. I also play softball on our church softball team -- I trade off one of the cardio nights on the nights we have games.
With regard to pausing between bites, I don't really time it. I *do* make sure that I put my fork down between bites and I'm still pretty good about chewing thoroughly but it is probably 30-45 seconds or so between bites.

I'm trying to maintain (which isn't really working, i'm still slowly losing) and i eat around 1500 calories a day at 12 months out. Like others have said, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish and your activity level.

Ten minutes between bites seems to me to be their method to get you to "eat less". I can't imagine unless you have some unusual complication the need to wait ten minutes between bites. Seriously. I would be eating all day long (not kidding) if I waited ten minutes between bites.
As others have said, I just chew chew chew, swallow, and if nothing is "stuck" dig in some more.
Cheers!
