Good and bad ( kinda) news

First the good news:  my wife, who was laid off on 12-31-08 had her 6th interview during that whole time on Mon despite sending out hundreds of Resumes.  She Got the Job! Yeah!  It pays considerably less than her old job, but she'll save over $1,500 in commuting costs and cut her commuting time in half.  She sounds like a good fit for the job and everyone there is friendly.

Second, the kinda bad news:  I gained 19 lbs over the past 3 months.  I know what I have to do to correct it.  My biggest problem is that I hadn't gained any weight from July 2009 through mid Feb and I just fooled myself into thinking I could get away with poor eating and little or no exercise.  So, it's about time for me to get back to the basics of keeping a food journal, having nutritioous snacks, and getting some exercise.  If I had any more fluids, I'd float away.  Oh, my cardiologist told me to cut down on the use of salt.  I knew that was coming some day.  That day is now.

Howdy Bob,

Congrats on the good news!  It may not be perfect but it's a great beginning.  Don't punish yourself and get back on the wagon!  Make some more good news!!!

My wife told me Fri that she has an additional benefit in that she gets a free meal daily.  She can have a sandwich or a hot meal and it will be delivered to her desk.  There are several places within the facility in which to eat.  She also gets some nice benefits regarding vacation and sick days.

As for my eating, I used the Beck Diet Solution last year and lost 50 lbs.  I used a food addicts diet as listed in Kay Shepard's book--Food Addiction-The Body Knows.  I've known for over 30 years that I am a sugar and white flour addict and a junk food junkie.  I simply have to avoid all addicting foods and keep track of what I do eat.  However, getting that first few abstinate days is the hardest part.  Logic says I should start today, but I'm going to start on 06-01-10.  There's just too much going on this week for me to set myself up for failure if I were to try this week.  That doesn't mean that I'll binge the whole time.  Rather, I'll start to prepare my environment.  I've already told my wife so she won't enable me to cheat ( if I want to diet she helps me but she has enough sense not to oppose me if I really need to eat junk ).  I just have to remember last year when I felt great while being abstinate.  I don't necessarily buy that saying that "being thin feels better than anything can taste " or something to that effect.  However, I do know that being free from the compulsion to eat makes me feel much better.  Even my shrink was amazed at my change in mood last year.

I will be fine.  It will take some effort but I can put in that effort. It is not an unsurmountable task.
