A Dose of Reality and Hope (Kick in the Pants for the slackers!)
Some here may remember me, it has been a long time since I have been on the forums. Life has been crazy and hectic and ever changing.
WLS is only going to work if you make a lifestyle change. I had WLS Oct 27, 2008. I lost 212 lbs in the first year. Then I moved out of state and lot changed.
I stopped exercising first and then little by little I started adding more and more sugary foods to my diet. I maintained my weight for 5 months and then over the course of 2 months I gained back 8.5 lbs.
I am happy to report that I gave myself a kick in the pants and I am now exercising again and watching what I eat. I have since lost 7.5 of the 8.5 lbs I gained, I plan to get to my goal weight of 185. I am currently at 216 and my lowest ever was 215.
Some insight that may help others here, it takes commitment to make lifestyle changes especially in the midst of change. Also accountability is huge! Post here or talk to people around you about your goals. When I moved I lost connections with all the people that knew me and the changes I was going through. I lost connections with those that knew my goals. I got comfortable and a little lazy. I didn't go way of the reservation but I stopped trying.
I have my head screwed on straight now and I hope to use you guys as my sounding board. I also told a couple people at work so that I feel accountable away from home as well.

Thanks Dan for the pre-emptive kick in the pants. It's so easy to slip back into old habits. I have to go to a restaurant tomorrow and was looking at some of the more high simple carb foods. But I think I'll stick with the chicken or steak. There will be other meals ahead where I can indulge. But not tomorrow.

Thanks for the post. I am just starting out in this. I have been flopping over the last three years trying to avoid WLS. Lot's of back story :). I really appreciate you comments since I need to lose a similar amount of wieght. I'm 440 with a goal somewhere near yours. Scares the hell out of me to lose that much weight, even though I have lost a lot (130 lbs in 2000) in the past through dieting and exercise in the past. For myself I think the biggest issue I need to address is my relationship with food.
