Need support and a kick in the ass
Hi all,
Ive been a lurker around here for a while but realized I am getting dangerously off track. I had RNY on 1/21/10 and so far ive lost 112 pounds from 488 to 376. Here recently though, I find myself eating crap again and finding my wife indifferent maybe even enabling. I just need some place to let this out and talk to people who's been through this, as great as my wife is she just doesn't have a clue.

Again, congrats on the loss thus far. 112 pounds is nothing to sneeze at.
Regarding your issue, all i can say is to try and regiment yourself. You've noticed the problem and admitted to it, now just take the proper action. Keeping a journal of your daily food intake (calories/protein/fat....and maybe even carbs if u want to) may be a good thing to keep yourself accountable. Even at almost 12 months out, i keep a daily track of what i'm eating, and it's usually pre-planned every morning, so i don't just eat whatever/whenever. Once you get into the habit of doing that, it gets much easier and becomes second nature...especially if you have the tendency to go back to old habits, something like this may be what you need to stay on track. Seeing it in front of your eyes and seeing the totals can sometimes keep you from just eating whatever and not caring until it's too late.
At any rate, good luck....i'm sure you can get back on track.

As far as I can tell all wls centers have support groups. Get to one asap. While internet boards help, you could be typing that message with a devildog in one hand a coke in the other
Go to a real life support group where you look at people eye to eye, there is more accountability, andthe support will feel more real.
oh yeah....stop eating ****

You and only you are responsible for what you put in your mouth !!!
Your wife may be indifferent or enabling, she is afraid of change just as most of us are. You need to learn new habits and your wife needs to be open to the new you. Take her with you to some support meetings, it may open her eyes.
Good luck, and get back on track.

Your weight loss to date is great. I'm sorry that your other half doesn't seem co-operative. If you sit down and calmly tell her how your life depends on your success. Maybe she'll change her tune. If not... then YOU have to tell yourself that living a healthier life is the THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN YOUR LIFE. Or else you may not have a live to live for long. It's tough. But tough love may be what is needed.
JiffyJ is right on. I try to make healthy food choices. I weigh all my food and enter it into an online food journal that tells me how much protein.. carbs. fat and protein I eat each day. That way I know I'm following doctor's orders. I can no longer lie to myself about what I'm eating.
Good Luck

Thanks everyone. Had sometime to sit down and figure it out for myself, and realized that I have to put up with me the rest of my life, other people may come and go, but Im stuck with me. So, off to a good morning, got my gym bagged packed and in the car for after work, doing a protein shake for breakfast, got everything else planned out. Had to resolve that I would no longer feel guilty for not eating something or some place that the DW wanted, no more chips, no more simple carbs, no more fast food. I'm over it, got to do what I got to do, I'm only 25 so I got a lot more to go, its too early for me to give in to defeat, I've already done that for 25 years.
