I need to gain weight
Hi guys, Jerry here.
I'm new to the board. Had the bypass exactly two years ago and lost 113 pounds all within the first 9 months. The last 15 months I've been able to maintain 166 pounds without any problems. About a month ago I ruptured two discs in my lower back. As a result, I was taking percocet 3x/day for about a week. Along with that I had two steroid and cortizone epidural injections for pain relief. ( I stopped the percocet after a week)
Couple of weeks ago the scales were telling me I was losing weight...about 2 pounds at the time and an additional two pounds this week for a total of 4 pounds. I've also noticed my stomach hurt which was first for me. Also have bouts of nausea after eating. I'm concerned with the weight loss. Been reading that it could be symtoms of peptic ulcer. Anyone else experience this ?
BTW, I've been eating like a "normal" person trying to maintain my weight...in excess of 3k calories a day. I can't keep doing that or I'll bust. Any advice?

I'll throw out a few ideas...just ideas...You may want to talk to a Nut. Adding more fruit (bananas esp) might help. Also complex carbs would be good. What might help too is finding 2-3 pound weights (if you can't find them, use something around the house that will substitute). Muscle weighs more than fat...so by building some muscle (retaining muscle mass), you may be able to gain some good weight. Maybe upping your protein with mixed nuts (I would go with plain nuts). Hope these help. Brian PS Also the mixed nuts with your medications may be a problem with trying to stay regular.
Jerry:
Call and see your bariatric surgeon ASAP as he/she is the best to figure out what is going on. Possibilities include an ulcer, gall stones, intra-abdominal hernia (some bowel getting caught in the mesentery of the abdomen), as well as other possibilities. Let he/she do a good history, physical exam, then do the proper testing.
Good luck
