I was 38 whem I had mine. I will be two years out 7/31. Phoenix, AZ.
I woke up in a lot of pain, most I have ever had in my life. I have since learned I'm immune to the effects of morphine.
For the first two weeks I was afraid to leave the house, or get more then 20 feet from the toilet.
At 6 weeks I was 80-85% better and went back to work. I'm a carpenter.
I think i had dropped about 120 lbs at about 3 months.
300 at one year.
I ate very clean for 9 months, no drinking for a year.
At 9 months I started reintroducing carbs to slow the weightloss.
Now I eat what ever I want protein first.
Vitamins were a pain at first but soon became a habit.
Only complaint would be I wish the Doc would have taken my gallbladder out, he does remove them now.
Good luck

1) I was 33 when I had the DS, I lived in NY (at the time) and Dr. Roslin was my surgeon
2) surgery went extremely well. I was almost 500 lbs at the time of surgery and it paid to travel into manhattan to have an experienced DS surgeon.
3) i followed the basic DS model...30 percent of excess weight loss at 3 months, 50 percent at 6 months and 80 percent at a year, I didn't get to goal until 18 months out....but then again I had 300 lbs to lose.

Dr. Roslin is a NYer through and through...but he's the best surgeon in Manhattan. He's doing the DS almost exclusively now, compared to 4 years ago where he was doing the RNY/DS and lap band.
I lost 113 lbs in my first 3 months...I think I reached the 150 lb mark somewhere at month 5 or 6. Just stay low carb until you get close to goal.
