Two week diet
Hey everyone,
I am having RNY surgery on the 12th and just started my two week diet of liquids. I am using Isopure for my protein shake, clear broth, ice pops and water. I just seem to still be very hungry. Did anyone else have this problem and if so and you give me some advise to get through this. Also, what are some better tasting protein shakes other than Isopure.

I felt a bit light headed at times during the pre-op diet. I thought I was hungry... but I think is just wanted to eat. I just drank more water and went for walks. Most importantly.. take it one day at a time. You can do it.

I'm just glad my program required me to lose the pre-op weight through better eating, no matter how long it took, vs a liquid diet. I truely believe I've done better overall for it, having had that time to really work on changing my lifestyle rather than doing a sort of crash diet.
Anyways, dunno if it'll help ya in time or not, but I use the unflavored, unsweetened, whey isolate cfm from trueprotein.com - could be mised in to different things... might be tough during clear liquids but as you start getting further out post-op might be worth checking out.
for RTD stuff, just tried the muscle milk lite and they aren't too bad. Bariatric Advantage has some "protein shots" that are pretty good, but you'll want to water them down... too sweet straight up. I use either during times where making my own shake wouldn't work, like out for paintball or camping or something.

I use Isopure and I mix 1 1/2 scoops with 8 to 10 ounces of cold water. I have tried it with skim milk and prefer it with water. I use 1 1/2 scoops because I have read that the body can only absorb 35 grams of protein at a time. I never have seen any studies to prove or disprove this, so I don't really know if it is true.

I'm right there with you. Currently on day 4 of the 2 week diet, with surgery scheduled for 4/13/10. My surgeon gave me 3 tubs of Bariatric Advantage shakes and they are awful. Super sweet and has a slimy texture to it as well. I'm struggling to drink the 3-4 shakes a day they recommend. I've been living off basically broths and broth mixed with some spicy v8 juice. It's kind of like having a Bloody Mary without the vodka, and tastes a lot better than the shakes.
Good luck with your surgery, Thomas.
Regards,
Chris
