Big Fart: Posted on MEN'S BOARD

I've had many moments over the past year that made me happy that I made this life changing choice to undergo weight loss surgery. But today topped them all.

This morning.. on this first day of spring... the sun was shining and and birds were singing...

I got back on a bicycle for the first time in about twenty years.

I didn't ride hard or fast or long. But I rode around my neighborhood for about twenty minutes.

It was just a shakedown cruse to make sure my fifty dollar second and Schwinn was working properly.

It was great.  I felt the wind through my hair (what little hair is left anyway)

One of my goals was to weigh less than 250 pounds by April so I could ride the bike without breaking spokes on the wheel.

Today I weigh 234 and April is still a couple of weeks away. So I'm ahead of where I expected to be.

In addition, I can resume activity.  My heel pain kept me from brisk walking. I don't feel the heel pain on my bike.

I think I'll go out for a ride on the bike trail later today.

All I have to say is.. YIPEE!

Amazing! Amazing too is all the things I forgot I even missed in life...still not sure bike riding is one, but at least it will be an option. I do look forward to basketball though

Bike update:

After going out for the initial shakedown cruise. I went back out this afternoon and rode 22 miles.  I fell off  the bike once. My butt and elbow hurts a little now.. but I was lucky I had a helmet on because I hit my head on the pavement.   I think I'm re-learning how to shift gears.

Congratulations on the major FART.   Way to go on the bike thing.

However, take care of yourself and be careful out there.   Don't overdo it the first time out.   22 miles is an awful lot after not being on a bike for awhile.   Remember, you are in this for the long haul.

Actually.. I did another eight miles on Sunday.  So that's 30 miles for the weekend.
