Hi everyone.  I've been reading lots of posts some are exciting and encouraging while others are scary.  I'm looking at lap RNY probably in July.  I hope it happens before I chicken out.  Most days I can't wait, but I also have what are you doing moments too.

The Men's forum is great!

Welcome and congrats on wanting to change your life.  I would encourage you to answer that question:  "What are you doing?"  While it has transformed my life positively, I am still dealing with the same old emotional **** that brought this on and it has brought some new sized **** with it  (literally and figuratli). Hopefully, you are getting some counseling to weigh the pros and cons and to come up with a strategy for getting through the months and years following surgery.

Been there...done that.  There is also the "What have I got myself into??"  But after a month or two, as the weight drops and the energy come back, you'll be wondering..."Why didn't I do this years ago??"

Thanks guys.  I'm really counting on the "Why didn't I do this sooner" moment!  Since i turned 40 it's like my metabolism turned off.  I've gained about 10 lbs a year since.  Stopping smoking added another 30-40.  That took me 5 years but i figured if I could quit smoking I could loose weight.  Nope.  I am so ready to get some energy back and start enjoying life again!

Howdy LostTxn!  I've learned some mexican food is better than others so I've experienced untrustworthy farts...

Know whatcha mean Vern!  Have only one local restaurant I go to.  At nearly two years post op about the only Mexican food I can eat is refried beans, guacamole and fajita meat.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Like usual, I won't answer directly about what I'm doing at the moment.  However, unless you have severe medical problems, you should fare well during the RNY.  I was a very high risk patient with a starting weight about 571 and a BMI in the mid 80s.  I have severe lymphedema in my right leg and had to actually beg to be approved for the surgery.  I am normally a very anxious person, but I put this in God's hands and asked my family and friends to pray for me.  Post RNY, I found that I was on prayer lines accross the nation.  Have confidence and have people pray for you if that helps.

Welcome aboard. You'll find lots of help here.  And not too much drama either.  Good Luck!
