Went in for a bypass on the 21st, came out after three hours with a sleeve.  Was a little disapointed, but better than nothing.  I must look hilarious walking up and down the corridor holding my belly in and burping and farting.  90% of my stomach is gone and I won't miss it.  First weigh-in next weekend!

Paul,

Welcome to the Loser's Bench!

Don't worry about the walking the halls burping and farting - that's part of the program!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Welcome aboard! Listen to the LostTexan. I thought my days worrying about a fart were over... but last week it became an issue again. Tex is a wise man.

Dang, I think I would be UPSET, going in to get one type of surgery and coming out with another type ..

Why did the surgeon change his/her mind?  Did they disclose to you that this might happen, beforey your surgery?

When the surgeon went in he found that my stomach was huge and it was stuck to my liver, intestines etc.  His call was that he could have done the bypass but with the extra stitching lines I would almost certainly have leaked at some time after the op with a one third chance of death.  I originally went in for a sleeve at the end of January but the op was cancelled because of the lack of an intensive care bed.  I changed my mind towards the bypass as I was waiting for a second date.  The chance of success for a sleeve was still very good so the surgeon went for our agreed second option rather than just closing me up and doing nothing.  If a bypass is needed later then the conversion from a sleeve will be easier and safer.  I'm disappointed in one way, but I'm at home and recovering.  With the bypass I might not have made it.

Wow  what a rough choice to have to make ..  Glad you came out O.K.

You might be able to lose all your EW with the sleeve (and keep ti off) ..  How much do you have to lose?   If not, then maybe a revision by adding the lower part of the DS procedure would be a good option, possibly ..  I would think about the same amount of cutting involved as with the RNY, or possibly just a little more ..   Dr. Kesava R. Mannur at the London Clinic is an experienced DS surgeon there in the U.K.   Dr. Michael Van den Bossche at The Medical Specialist Group in Guernsey is another one, although I don't know if he is actively practicing anymore.

Thanks for the information.  I have 98 pounds to lose.  We'll see if I can push on to the century!
