Making a Daily Committment to Abstinence
I plan to start making a daily committment to Abstinence here starting tomorrow. Any Man can do so today. This can be a thread where we food addicts can avow our common purpose for the day.
I do recall that eventually Overeaters Anonymous realized that slips are a part of Recovery. We know we will be in recovery for the rest of our lives and we accept that fact. However, we do not plan on allowing ourselves to eat addicting foods once we make a vow of abstinence. Note: we do forgive ourselves if we slip rather than condemning ourselves. But, we don't plan on failure: we've done that way too often in the past.
Why am I starting tomorrow rather than today? It's personal and involves a special dinner. I know that some Men will make their commitment to begin on Ash Wednesday. I say that whatever works for you is great.

I saw a newspaper article this morning referring to abstinence from premarital sex as a valid forum of birth control. Since abstinence from sex is in the news, I now understand your confusion. I'm in the minority, but I got married way back in 1974 at the height of the sexual revolution. My wife and I were both virgins when we married and we've never had sex with anyone else. We've been married over 35 years and don't even think in terms of abstinence from sex.
However, I have been in and out of Overeaters Anonymous and they stress avoiding addicting foods which is abstinence from them. It's their term and not mine. Prior to OA, I only referred abstinence to not eating meat on Fridays and certain other days in the year.
