General VSG experience / Alcohol
Hi Guys - Struggling with the decision to get WLS. Thanks for posting your experiences and rationale for going forward.
Seems like most guys opt for Bypass. Any Men Sleevers who have posts about their experiences?
Also, I'm not a big drinker but do enjoy having a few beers with the boys every now and again. How has the experience with alcohol been post opt? Is it possible to still enjoy the occasional beer?
Thanks!
Rob

I was not a big drinker before my surgery, but I loved the cold ones whenever I fired up the grill or set around the campfire or went out to eat. Man, it sounds like I was a big drinker, but I really wasn't.
After 6 months I asked my PA and she said I could have ONE beer every once in a while and I still went a few more months before I had one. I was kinda scared to try one unless I was at home first. But I did and I remember feeling a little light headed for a short time. She did say you would get drunk faster and sober faster, so I guess you could get drunk multiple times in one night if you dranked a lot.
I have not had any issues at all, I have not tried liquor but was never much on that anyway.

Hi Ken - Thanks for the reply. I am the same way - I do not drink a lot but it was nice to have a cold one every once and again. Another guy I spoke with has the occasional beer but lets it go flat first. He said he rarely finishes it but it satifies the craving.
It seems the benefits significantly out way the loss.
Thanks! Rob

My experince has been great. It has been the best thing I have done for myself. I started at 380 and have lost 130 since april. My goal is to get to 220 by my one year anniverary in April. It has not been any easy road by any means and you will still fight hunger and cravings. If you follow the plan your doctor gives you you will lose the weight you go out side the plan and you will accomplish nothing. I find myself fighting the same bad habits and challeges I had before the surgery which is why I have not reached my goal already. The tool makes it easyier to lose weight but getting your head right to make the life style and eatting ha*****anges nessecary to mantain weight lose is still a challang with the VSG you are only limited in capacity.
I had the DS becausre long term I didn't believe the VSG would help me keep the weight off. Once you are a couple of years out from the VSG, you will be able to eat enough food to regain. I was tired of fighting gaining weight and I didn't want to fight regain after WLS.
Almost any WLS is successful during the first year or two, but after year 2 where will you be?
BTW the top half of the DS is the VSG, I can only speak from my own experience, but I can (and sometimes do) eat 5000 to 6000 calories a day. Without the malabsorbtion component, I'd have regained a long time ago.
