I have seen this question asked in the main forum but want just some guys answers. How long after surgery did you go back to work and what kind of work.

I'm trying to decided how much time I need off cause I don't have very much leave and if I cant go back within 6 days I'm gonna have to wait to build up more leave.

Just looking for some insight. Thanks

All depends.  Do you fly a desk or dig ditches?  About two weeks with a desk job and up to six for anything that involves getting physical.  Is telecommuting an option?

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I went back to work after the open RNY in three weeks on light duty as a correction officer.  It was too long.  Should have taken two weeks.

5 days after surgery I drove ski boat at show ski nationals.  I am an isurance agent, I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday.  The first week was tough though because it takes over a week for all the drugs to leave your system.  I was very tired that whole week.

As others have mentioned, it depends on the job you do and they type of surgery you have. I sit at a desk most of the day. I had laproscopic RNY on a Friday and came back to work the next Thursday. I stayed 4 hours on Thursday and 6 hours on Friday. I took naps after work for about two weeks after returning.

It wasn't the worst thing. I was glad to get back into a normal routine. I would have been board out of my skull had I taken six weeks off. No two people are the same.

I'm lucky, from one perspective, because I don't have a job to go back to. I was laid off a year ago. i've spent the last year doing a lot of writing - several blogs, maybe a book. The job market is so lousy, but I'm hoping that WLS will improve my apperance and lift my job prospects - among other things.

I was off for four weeks after my surgery and glad I took the time. I was in the hospital for the first five days and took four hours naps about every day. I was luck and was able to use short term disabilty so I got 70% of my salary while I was out.

I am an aircraft engine mechanic. Its not real physical but I do stand alot and bend over and stuff. However, I work for the federal government so I can just get put on restrictions for a week or two and they will pretty much give me a sit down job while I heal.

I had laprascopic RNY. I went back to my desk job four weeks later. But I probably could have gone back in three.

I had laproscopic RNY on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. I had a desk job but had to do a lot of moving around and walking as part of it. It was a breeze for me.
