Is it time to let post WLS men and women into the military??
NO, I was retired from the Navy, Dav, because of a brain inj, that left me lacking a hormone that regulate water/ hydration, if I go with out a simple pill the size of half a aspirin I will dehydrate. Sure I do fine with them, but , with out I'm in a world of **** Now I'm 100% disabled. 40 years later.
A good question and a controversial one on which I personally have mixed feelings, Logcabindude .. ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/thinking.gif)
On the one hand, I can certainly understand wanting to serve, esp. now that a person is in good enough shape to finally be able to do so, yet I understand also the military's guidelines about no personnel with ongoing special dietary or medical needs, at least going in ..
Keep in mind that with any of the types of WLS, there ARE ongoing special dietary needs, supps., etc., some more essential than in others .. (esp. RNY and even more so, DS) .. Even with the band, there are fills, "eat protein first" rules, etc. (I don't know how much protein is in those MREs, btw)
The strongest argument I can think of for the military to try to accomodate personnel that have WLS might be to point to how vets who are leg amputees are now allowed to re-enlist and go into active duty, even overseas in war zones, after being fitted with the new, high-tech prosthetic legs ... That was something unthinkable until just a few years ago, and one that technology has changed ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "
HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )
