Way OT - Man vs Wild
I am sitting and watching Man -vs- Wild and Bear Grylls. About 20 minutes into the show they showed his hand and he had a huge gash in one of his fingers. About 20 minutes later they show him when he cuts the finger. I realize that they edit these things but it kind of ruined the illusion that he is surviving. Now it seems like he is just a bunch of stunts and they just put them in one show.
I know that they had an issue a while back about him leaving at night to sleep in a hotel and I am not under the illusion that he is really in harms way.
Just throwing it out there. Wondering if anyone cares about stupid **** like me.

I love the show...but it's all staged. If you watched season one on TV, they made it look real. But if you rent season 1 on DVD (i got it at my library), they specifically say that he's not spending the night out here (on voice overlaid narrations that were added after the fact). In the original airings, they made it seem like he came across dead animals or caught fish in his contraptions, but in the DVD they made disclaimers that he didn't catch anything and that they put fish out so you could see what to do if you did catch a fish...or that a local farmer put a dead animal out so Bear could demonstrate what to do if you came across a dead animal.
I do like this show, I like Survivor man although i think it's been taken off the air, but my favorite show is apocolypse man.

Ah, skip those shows one weekend and grab a Bowie knife, a tomahawk (a hand ax will do, but it is not as useful in hunting) and an canteen, then head out to the wilderness alone like I often do. Nothing like living it for yourself, sleeping under the stars with a campfire smoldering, and foraging for your own food. Oh and nothing but the sounds of the coyotes and wolves to lull you to sleep, except the, very rare, occasional roar of a mountain lion or bear. (The fire will keep them all away as long as you keep it smoldering.) The stars at night, all by themselves, make the trip worth taking. Guess this is why I am the OH barbarian. Oh, and for those who are animal lovers, when the animals all sign a pact not to eat me, I will sign on, until then the law of the wild is kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. I only kill what I will eat by the way. Now I am getting itchy to go out and track something for dinner. Good thing boars are an invasive species, I can hunt them year around. (That's what the tomahawk if for.)

Two things here:
1. As a one who once worked int he industry, I know that with all those camera angles, it had to be shot and re-shot.
2. As a real survivalist, I know that this guy wouldn't make it 15 min in a real survival situation.
Yes the guy has military training, (British) but often military survival training is bare bones training designed to keep you alive for a mission of just a few days. When you spend your free time living off the land for weeks or months at a time you get a whole different perspective on shows like that and Survivor Man.

I agree about survivor man. I loved that one. The apocalypse man was another really good one. Bear seems to be really into Bear whereas the others seem to want to teach.

If you guys like those shows you are in for a treat soon. Discovery channel I think is coming out with duel survivor man type show. One guy runs a school here in Prescott AZ, the other guy has one in Ohio I think. Dave from Ohio is a stud i love his pathfinder vids. He's a link to him showing off his M6, my new favorite truck gun.
