Xpost: Six weeks and stalling... looking for advice on diet/food intake?

So... I'm starting to stall out.  Please give me some advice on my diet?

The vast majority of days are very, very similar to what I ate yesterday (which is listed below).  I had a good honeymoon period with my weight loss and I want to do what I can to keep the weight coming off?  To give a bit of background... I cannot keep protein shakes down (taste + texture = yak!), my protein goal is 90g+/per day, I was never told to track calories, fats, carbs, or sodium.  I was told to try and keep my sugars below 10g per meal.  I was told to eat six meals a day (I'm getting 5 in).  I was told to get in 64oz water/liquids per day (I get real close each day).  These are my totals from The Daily Plate; I elect, on my own accord, to track my food intake.  I have an office job, so at best, I only do light walking in a day plus help take care of my 3 year old and 7 month old when I get home.  Gym membership to come next month, hopefully!

Thanks you in advance!!

Just me...I might add some cooked vegetables like spinach or broccoli with alittle salt.  Maybe cut back to a 1/2 bar for the 2 snacks (not sure).  What I found that would break a stall...Hard physical work!!  For some reason doing projects around the house would break a stall faster than anything.  Cleaning the car, rearranging old closets, helping a neighbor with projects, pruning stuff...would break my stalls.  Brian  PS  For some reason exercise won't do it...The body will reduce in inches but holds onto the weight for awhile and then drops it.

Your doing great. The stalls will come and go. As hard as it sounds forget the scale for a while and just judge by hom your clothes fit. It won't last long.

Your diet looks great except like Cabin said the veggies.  When I was at your stage I drank a 7oz can of V-8 every day to get a serving of veggies.  I would also suggest real food for breakfast to keep your metabolism going, your body metabolizes milk/liquids pretty fast.  Maybe an egg would help.

Don't worry the honeymoon isn't over we all hit stalls every few weeks, some last 3 or 4 weeks some only a week.  It's part of the process.  Within the next month or two you should get into a regular exercise routine, I suggest a sport or game that you like so you stick to it.

Good luck, we are here for you.

I know this will sound odd, but perhaps you are getting too few calories.  If you allow yourself 1,000 cal per day, you can add some veggies, fruit, and whole grains.  Fruit is better if raw.  There are a variety of whole grains.  I use light whole wheat bread--about 70 cal per slice.  You may want to try leftover meat for you dinner because the sugar/protein ratio in your meal looks a little high.  Maybe you or your wife can make up leftover meals that you can either eat straight or nuke at work.

I can say from experience that you will lose a lot of weight when you are in your "sweetheart" phase of your post-op diet.  So, it's good that you are taking an interest in this.

I saw a piece on the news this morning about the magic grain known as quinoa.   You cook it like rice and it is relatively low in carbs and high in protein.  I've seen it praised here before.  And, I have relatives who are distance runners who swear by it.

What is your definition of a stall? How often do you weigh yourself?

It hard for me to answer your first question, because I haven't been through one yet.  I have been holding at the saem weight for four days.  I know for what I have learned on the boards that four days isn't a big deal... I just want to do what I can to keep the scale moving.  And to be honest, I weigh myself too much... I need to stop.

Take Care & Good Luck,
Jason

Jason, for the first 6 months try to only be weighed at your doctor visits (3 and 6 months).  First off house scales are not accurate over 250 pounds and secondly you will drive yourself crazy.  How many times have you weighed yourself in the last week?  if you know you have stalled for 4 days I would say weigh too often.

The pounds will come off when they come off, and they will come off.  Don't fret over it, and getting on the scale is fretting.  You need to make sure you are eating enough, you needent worry about eating to much right now, you just can't physically do it.

I weigh only on Monday mornings.  And even since my RNY nearly four months ago. There has been one week I lost Zero.. Another week I GAINED a pound.  But over the long haul.. I keep losing. Just follow doc's orders and you should be okay.

You're doing fine, the stalls happen, and they will pass.  And 4 days isn't bad at all, try going 3.5 weeks like I did early on.  LOL.
