Side effect - I'm COLD!!!!!!
The one thing I am noticing this winter is that if I am in rooms below 70 degrees, my hands and feet get very cold. I no longer have the extra insulation on them that I used to. I need to find more thermal socks - but they are now hard to find with summer stuff coming out on the shelves.
Yesterday I wore a dress shirt and a sweater-vest, and my arms were cold. And there have been a few days in the northern Ohio cold that I have taken to wear thermal underwear bottoms all day, something I have never felt the need to do in the past.
Bless her heart - my wife bought me a wonderful parka from Lands End for Christmas, and it is a phenomenally warm coat when I am outside with the snowblower in single-digit wind chills.
I'll gladly add layers of insulation in place of the "natural insulation" I carried around for most of my years!

2 years out and it is just now starting to get better.
That being said, I'm sitting at my desk with 2 long sleeve shirts on. One is a turtle neck, and the other is a sweater, and what is supposed to be a floor heater is up on my desk about 12 inches away from me.
I have also started drinking coffee which I could never stomach before, but I'm so freaking cold on some days that I'll drink it just because it's hot and work provides it.
But it is getting better. This time last year I thought I was going to die from the cold, it never eased up.
Good luck.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
The first year or two I would request thermals and warm clothing (expensive socks) for gift days. I've gone to electric blankets. Also since the kids have left the house, many nights I will sleep in one of my daughter's old rooms with the space heater and the electric blanket on...toasty. Brian PS Hot herbal teas at night may be good too.
It never got any better for me. 5 1/2 years post and I start wearing thermals in October - all day every day. My biggest complaint is my hands, when I am working on the computer my (mouse) hand gets so cold it achs. I am an Insurance agent so I spend most of the day at the computer. On the days that I have to snowblow I use grabber hand warmers in my mittons then I bring them inside and hold them all day to keep my hands warm inside.
Like you said rather be cold than a fatty. LOL
