Surgery soon

Hi, I'm Paul, 56, married with an 11 year old son.  Vertical Laprascopic Gastrostomy planned for 31 Jan 10.  Highest 336, current 306, target 210.  Any pre-op advice for a nervous guy?!

Hi Don
My surgeon is Prof Baxter, based in Swansea, Wales.  Operation will be in the private wing of Bridgend Hospital.  I don't qualify under the NHS as I'm not heavy enough, despite Type 2 diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, syndrome X and sleep apnoea.  Happy to hear from everyone.

Being nervous is quite normal, try not to let it take over though, you'll be fine.

My only real piece of advice is not to put too many expectations on yourself until you see how your body reacts to the surgery.  Everyone loses different and has a different story to tell.  So until you see your body's pattern and/or pace, don't be a slave to the scale like i am.  LOL.  Enjoy the journey!

I'm normally a very anxious person.  the best things that helped calm me prior to surgery was gathering my family together and asking for their prayers.  I was also put on prayer lines by friends and family.  Note:  I weighed 574 lbs at the time and was considered to be a high risk patient.
