Every day, since surgery, everyday, I have had a tremendous amount of gas and diarrhea.  I was finally moved to soft foods Monday, and no matter what I eat, I just cannot escape it.  I thought moving from puree's to soft foods would help, but no.  I'm taking Gas-X, that's not working well at all.  I'm mean fellas... I can hear it moving aound in there.

Is this normal, does it go away?

God I hope so.... I don't want to plan my life around Men's room visits and Gas-X tablets.

Take Care & Good Luck,
Jason

NO!!  It's not normal.  Call your doctor.  See if you can take some Amodium AD.  Also know the signs of dehydration esp since the food is going though you.  You may have picked up a bug at the worst time.  Don't know.  Brian

From what my doc told me and what i've heard around the OH boards, the gas is pretty normal the first couple of weeks.  I had terrible gas the first 2-3 weeks.  I mean terrible, I too could hear and feel it moving around in me, but it never would "come out" so to speak.  I will say that I didn't have the diarrhea at all, in fact, I couldn't go #2 at all for the first 2 weeks.  So that may be a concern, I would check with your doc on that issue.

Don't think the diarrhea is normal. The sounds of it moving around in there I have that to. I just thought that was normal. Maybe someone else can tell us.
I'd for sure call the doc as you don't want to get dehydrated (sp).

Jay,

Are you taking any kind of antiacid, fantomine, on a daily basis?

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Yes, I am.  An antiacid every day.  I was prescribed it in the hospital and I've been taking it since.  I also think the Gas-X has some antiacid in it as well.

Why?  Does that matter?

Why?  Does that matter?

Gas is a byproduct of the stomach acid churning.  Reduce the churn - reduce the gas.

I had diarreah for about a month after my surgery.  Then suddenly it stopped.  Now, I am at a point where it is so solid that it makes me bleed again. (I have a tear)  I personally wouldn't worry about it yet.  Just keep hydrated. If you are concerned, talk to you surgeon. That is what they are there for.

I'm a month out and still have some diarrhea mixed with regular stools.

I agree that you big concern should be dehydration.

It always pays to keep you doc up to date, and why not ask him about it, that's what he makes the big bux for

Cheers,

g
