A "Wickedly" good time
My wife and I went out on a "date" yesterday. My daughter bought us tickets for the musical "Wicked". We saw it in a old restored theater, You would not call the widths of the seating "generous". But I had no trouble sitting there for two hours and 44 minutes. That's something I couldn't say even a few months ago before losing weight. And walking back to our car with the exiting crowd we decided not to wait for the elevator and walked up five flights of stairs to the top of the parking deck. That's definitely not something I could have done a few months ago either.
We went out to dinner at the Hyde Park Steak House after wards. I tried to plan ahead for this earlier in the day by eating high protein.. low fat and low carb foods earlier in the day. I ate egg whites, a protein shake, and half container of plain Greek yogurt. I also ordered the smallest portion meals I could find on the menu. But I think the waiter was wondering if I was trying to keep the bill as low as possible.
Steak Cabernet* 7oz
Filet mignon, garlic, cracked black pepper,
roasted shallot Cabernet butter
Hyde Park Wedge Salad (one quarter size)
Iceberg lettuce, blue cheese dressing,
bacon & candied pecans
On the hour long drive home, I felt a little nauseous and very tired. I haven't felt like that since the early days of post op. Perhaps it was a little bit of "dumping" because of the all the fat or the sugar in the candied pecans.
Since the restaurant does not have it's nutritional information online, I had to estimate using my food journal website fitday.com.
The bad news is that I ate almost sixty grams of fat.. about four times as much as I have been eating a day since WLS. I also ate about double the calories I usually eat. More than one thousand for the day. I probably should have ordered the salmon, but I WAS at a steak house... NOT a fish house. I also should have brought my water bottle. (I don't drink liquids during meals) I hardly drank any liquids from 2pm until 7pm. I felt a little dizzy when I stood up after dinner as a result.
The good news is that I ate more than ninety grams of protein and only 23 grams of carbs.. about half the carbs I usually eat per day.
I also ate tiny pieces of food, chewed a long time, and didn't inhale my food like I used to. I also felt full for the first time in a long time.
And my wife and I had a good time. That's really good news.
