I'm really interested in how it goes for you. Its something I really want to do in the future. I'm just starting the pre op part of this journey but its a goal to get down to a point that I can learn to fly.

I emailed AOPA and they stated that the FAA doesn't have a problem with RNY surgery just need all the paper work. But I wondered how picky they were.

That's interesting I always assumed that the small planes would require you to be less than 250 or so. I hope all goes well with the Medical let us know.
Thankfully, as a balloonist, I never had to do a med cert. Best of luck finding an answer and getting in the air.

Hey Ken
Let us know how it goes. I have mine in April. Surprised I passed last time with the c-pap and hypertension. It was also discovered at my last Class 3 that I had diabetes but oral meds took care of it so I got a special issuance. Now diabetes free and down 115 lbs so it SHOULD be a breeze. Interested in what they say about weight loss surgery.
Hesitant to go in because I don't want to be denied when I can fly LSA.

Well, I now have a 3rd Class Medical in hand.
Arrived at doctors office with all the paper work that the AOPA said I should bring, however the doctor really didn't look at it. The nurse ran me through the normal eye test, weight/height, urine sample etc.
Doctor came in and said " so you have ad Gastric Bypass", I don't think that is a problem, finished his porttion of the exam and said he could call the Flight Surgeon and ask about WLS for $20 extra or he could submit it and wait to here back, I said I could go for the $20 charge in addition to his $99 office visit.
Waited about 15 minutes and he came out with my medical and all he asked is that I have the surgeons office forward my last office visit notes (which was yesterday) and that was it.
So, a biannual review and I am back in the left seat!
