The full sensation
Hi all,
I have been told (in support group) by other RNY'ers that because the nerve that gives us the hunger and full feeling was cut during surgery that I will not have the hungry feeling ,or the full feeling for a while but that the nerve will grow back in time and then both feeling will return.
The first part is true so far, I really don't have hunger pains but I certanily have cravings, but not hunger pains perse.
When should the hunger and full feelings return? I know everyone is different, just looking for your experiences.
Thanks,
G

Don't know about when they return, but I do understand the cravings. It is like when someone is blind or deaf, their other scenses become more powerful. The SMELL of foods i****ting me like crazy. Especially, with thanksgiving dinners. Even veggies sound wonderful. I know, in a couple of weeks, I can broaden my food choices a little.
Am interested to hear this response as well. Good luck.

3+ years out and I still don't get hungry...but that doesn't mean there aren't other problems. I get head hunger...and cravings. Also if you go back to carbs (pray that you never do...except complex carbs...they are like crack cocaine) they will draw you back bigtime with the cravings...things like cake, chips, pasta, crackers, bread...big downfall. Concerning hunger, what I do get is that "not full feeling"...which can be harder that the hunger feeling. But no more stomach growling...but I can crave bigtime... About at 6 months the pouch spreads out and as you can eat more you probably will feel those cravings more. You're in the honeymoon period right now...use it wisely. Brian
I'm almost 2 years post op and never lost my appetite / hunger....though i dont really get much in the way of a full sensation so i need to know when to stop...

MY STORY: imthebiggestloser.blogspot.com/
I almost never feel hungry. I'm coming up on 2 years in January.
But I was almost never hungry before the surgery, and I would eat past the point of needing food or feeling full. Almost all of my eating was related to something other than hunger then.
Boredom
comfort
social
etc.
But the one thing that most people seem to avoid talking about here is enjoyment. I liked food. I ate food because it tasted good. When it tasted good, I wanted more of it. I ate too much food, and I did it all the time. I was addicted to food like others are to alcohol or drugs.
I think the cravings are worse than hunger pains. Hunger pains you can take care of by eating something. Even a small something, something healthy or in a lot of cases just drinking something will stall off that hunger feeling. But cravings are a different more evil thing.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Just got back from my doc(has a small bleeding/infection issue with one of my sites, NBD). Asked about the full sensation/hunger feeling and he said that the vast majority of his patients that felt the hunger or full sensation before surgery got it back in time, but the time can vary. I'm hoping
