Is 8 oz of chili too much for one meal at 9 wks post RNY?

I don't know if it is the right way or wrong way to be eating.  I was rushing around today, and wasn't home a lot for meals.  Here is what I ate

B- 14 g dry instant oatmeal with water, Splenda and cinnamon.  56 g microwaved egg whites 5 g mustard

S- Scoop Isopure whey protein and one teaspoon Metamucil

L- 8 oz Wendy's Chili

S- 1 scoop Isopure whey protein powder.

D- 3 oz turkey breast, 10 g mustard.. 89 g of steamed broccoli and carrots.

Instead of eating seven meals today... I ate five.  I still had nearly 100 g of protein, fewer than fifty carbs, and fewer than 15 g of fat. and fewer than 700 calories. Which is about my daily average for the past couple of months. My only concern is eating the eight ounces of chili for one meal. I usually don't ingest that much. I don't want to be able to eat large amounts of food again.

IMHO Yes

The most I've been able to eat comfortably is around 4oz of Wendy's Chili

I think it depends on the individual.  With chili being a sort and loose food, that may explain why you're able to eat more comfortably than the turkey you had for supper.  I, personally at 19 months out, don't count anymore.  I'm pretty much set in my routine and it works for me.  I eat until I'm not hungry.

Based upon your totals for the day, I'd say you did ok.  Alot of people worry about pouch/stoma streching, but with this type of food I'd say that's not that big of a concern.

Overall, 700 cal with 100g protien is pretty darn good.

Wishing you continued success.

Jason is right, I will explain in a bit more detail.  Liquid goes through you faster so you can eat more of a food that is comprised of liquid, like soups, chili, etc...

I was just plain old full after just under 2 ounces of food for quite a while, then one day we had chili and I ate an entire bowl.  I was shocked.  I hadn't realized how much I had eaten and got concerned.  Because of the fact that after 4 ounces I was not full yet and I could still eat a bit more.

I asked the head nurse of the bariatric program and the dietitian and they both said the same thing, liquid goes through you faster.

Which is exactly why they do not want you to drink before/during/after you eat, so that it doesn't wash the food through allowing you to eat more.  I believe that is the main reason why people with the RNY put weight, sometimes all of it, back on.  Because their pouch doesn't 'keep the food at bay' like a complete stomach does.  Like the ds, which keep food in our stomach longer, that is also what allows us to take extended release medication.

Anyway, Enjoy life and use the wls to your advantage.

Speaking as someone who can now eat entirely too much coming up on 3 years post-op, the advice I pass on as someone that made the mistake... Eat Slowly.  Learn from my mistakes.

eat slowly and make small portions. Do not get into the mindset of: I'll make a regular sized meal and just eat till i'm full then i'll stop and have more for later.

wrong.

before you know it, you'll be able to eat all that you made and then the problems really start.

I've always measured my food by volume, not weight....I "could" eat that much early on, but chose not to because that's more than what my nutritionist guidelines stated.  I believe I was allowed either 1/4 or 1/2 cup at a sitting at 9 weeks.  I followed the rules to the letter until I hit goal, and was rewarded with freakishly fast weightloss (230+ lbs in >10 mos).

As for the "grams" on the other stuff, no idea what that works out to volume-wise, so...not sure. Your totals seem OK though...but you should really be talking to your nutritionist....most of them know their stuff.
