Thankfully, this sort of thing has never happened to me but I feel bad for the guy. But, what really ****** me off is the comments section after the article! These ingrates speak as though they know everything about obesity! None of these people know this man but speak of him as if they do ("fat slob"). It just makes me mad when people make snap judgements like that.
Good point, 1616 (and welcome to the Men's Forum, btw) .. I noticed (as did Scott) that Chad had some of the same ignorant type of comments to the "That's Fit" article about his great accomplishment.

The comments were pretty bad. As a previous fatty, I would not have been opposed to purchasing another seat after all big people take up more space and use more than their share of the fuel to move their extra weight. My problem is that they don't have a set rule like 300# + and you buy another seat, or 2 big people share the extra seat between them. Or have a few bigger seats and charge more for them. Making it an issue at the time of the flight is what aggitates me about it.
The world is full of people of all different sizes but we only make room for "regular sized" people.

I still think maybe the p.c. solution woudl be have one of the actual seats out of the airliner somehwere near the purchase area/counter, preferably in a private area, so the passenger can "try out" a seat and see if they can fit in it with the arms down. If they don't fit, only then can they be forced to buy two seats. That would eliminate the uncertainty, ambiguity, inconsistency, etc. in the decision.
