How to deal with Thanksgiving - 2 weeks out

Any ideas on surviving thanksgiving while on a liquid diet (Post-op)?  The smells of all foods have intensified and while I can control myself, it is hard to keep from salivating over each item.  Thanksgiving is going to be hard as I LOVE food.

It may not be as tough as you think.  Eat your liquid food when you are supposed too and drink a lot of water or crystal light to keep your pouch full.  Stay busy, maybe go for a walk, but be sure to be involved in all the activities except the eating.  You can do it, it's only 1 thanksgiving.  Just think of all the extra thanksgivings that you have given yourself by having WLS.

You have already had a tough week, I hope all goes well.

You are harboring a negative attitude.  I've read about using positive imaging.  It's a technique one of my therapists taught me years ago and I used it to overcome my shyness.  Basically, you imagine yourself in various situations and also imagine how you should respond.  Supposedly, the brain can't distinguish between actual experience and imagined experiences.  If you build yourself up mentally, it may help you when faced with difficult situations.  Of course, we all have years of practice doing just the opposite--imagining the worst.

Besides, you have to follow your liquid diet or you can totally screw up your surgery.  Not only may you be throwing up food, but you may get sick enough to have to be hospitalized if you indulge in solid food.

If the smells of turkey get to you, you may want to try some chicken broth.  You can probably have vegetable soup with the vegetables removed--let someone else eat them.  You can alway just enjoy the smells of the food without eating it but if it becomes too hard, just excuse yourself and get away from the table until the meal is over.

Scotty, the hunger that you're going to experience will be head hunger.  You're too soon post-op to have those nerve endings that have been cut in your stomach to let you actually feel hunger.  I can guarantee you that if you do give in to the hunger cravings you will not be happy.  The food will not taste  good and you will not feel good.  A couple of bites will be all that you can tolerate at this point.
Thanksgiving is only one day and it's only one meal.  Don't beat yourself up over it.  It's not about the food.  It's about taking the day and the time to give thanks.....  Be thankful for  what you have, your family, your health, and the possibility of a new longer, healthier future and life.  Be thankful for what your bariatric surgery has given to you.  In thanks deny yourself the traditional meal on this day and think about what all you have to gain.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Duane

Thank you for th responses. I am aware of this being head hunger and not physical hunger.  However, the problem that I have is that the smells are just sooooo inticing.  I feel I have thanksgiving figured out for now.  I will let you know how this goes.
