"How much more do you have to lose?"

Has any "normal" person, (not associated with this board) come up to you lately and said: "You look great! How much more do you have to lose?"  I remember when people used to say that to me I was kind pf insulted because to me, they had just told me in a backhanded way that I was still fat. Has it happened to you, and how do you react?

What I mostly got was that other way.  People told me that I was losing too much which was equaly annoyin since I was still in the 240-250 range.  I think that it is generally annoying when people make any comment that is not a good job type of comment.

I think people are so conditioned to celebrate even the slightest weight loss as a big accomplishment, that when faced with someone who's lost a lot of weight, they don't know how to handle it.

A guy at church today said to me "are you still losing weight, you don't need to lose anymore you''re to skinny". I wonder if being called "to" skinny is like being called to fat, the to makes it a bad thing. I told him I was not trying to lose anymore weight. Wanted to say mind your own business. But did not know if I would.

I don't get the "how much more" comment either.  As soon as I had dropped the first 50 or so, people started telling me I was "too thin".  Now that I'm down 125, I have people telling me that I need to GAIN some.

BTW, I'd like to lose 10 more, but if I don't I don't care.

I get the your wasting away to nothing or the your to skinny thing. I have been maintaining my current weight for 2 years. I started at 375 and my lowest was 156 at about a year after surgery. I normally stay at 165. I will go up or down a few pounds either way. At 156 I was pretty scrawny looking. 160 to 165 is where I would like to stay. I have just learned to ignore people and their stupid comments. I have a friend that had surgery and did well, but has now regained most of his weight. His excuse is that some one told him that he looked sick so he started eating like he use to. Just another example of the fact that WLS is just a tool. I tell every one that you have to make permanent life style changes.

Ohhh yeah.....I recall...Many people including a few family members would ask me if I was sick because I was too skinny.  From 457lbs, my lowest was 188lbs.  Looking back I did look sick in pictures.

I've gained about 20 lbs and I look hot now....LOL....I'm still below my goal and working the tool.

How would I react?  I would not believe the people at first because I thought I was still a large guy in my head.  I would just smile...laugh at the comment..and ignore it.  It took time before I began to realize that yes, I did look sick and pale.
