Congratulations.  You may want to contact Bob L from TN.  He's an interstate truck driver and has successfully followed his post-op food plan as well as getting in exercise.  He carries a bicycle with him (either in or on the rig).  Although he hasn't posted on our forum in a long time, I think he's still active on the TN board.

Congrats on getting the big license ..

So, you got any driving jobs lined up yet?    Maybe you could start up your own trucking moving company:

     UNIDOS VAN LINES

Speaking of MF members who are truckers, anyone remember "Dale" (I forgot his username)?.   Wasn't he a trucker too?    I guess he got back into it after his major weight loss ..  Anyone know or heard from him of late?

I'd love to own my own but unless you are financing it. I'll pass. Now is not the time for that.

Nothing lined up yet. In the process of calling a few places back.  Would like to be in an orientation of sort by Dec 1st

Sonds good, and good luck to you on that.

One thing I'd recommend watching out for are the big cos. (no names here, but you probably know some of them already  ) that try to set up a "lease" deal with drivers for their own rigs, supposedly making the driver an independent contractor who is just leasing the rig from them, and supposedly getting the tax benefits of same.  They fill the drivers' heads with "you will be your own boss and own your own co.!" talk.  I've known so many drivers that ended up feeling ripped-off by those set-ups.  The co., for example, will say they will take care of any maintenance issues that arise on the rigs (after all, it's being "leased", right?) and then when something major comes up they dump it back on the driver instead to find a way to get the repairs paid for.  Sometimes the driver just ends up abandoning the rig where it is and walking away from the whole deal (bad idea, b/c then the co. may and sometimes does try to come after them for the costs involved in repo, storage, etc.      In the end, it seems like it is the co. that winds up with the benefit of the relationship (including the tax breaks) and the driver the short end of the stick.

I would suggest driving as an employee for a co. for at least a couple of years first, and then, if you want to go out on your own, see about getting a loan (possibly S.B.A.?) to buy your own rig with and start it ..

no lease option for me.. All i'd be doing is paying their note for them.  Then once you sign on to that they find ways for you to default so they can get the truck cheaper..
