"Shaft" Got Breast Cancer???
For anyone who missed it on the news last week, Richard Roundtree has decided to go public now with his survivial of breast cancer from several years ago. I was surprised to find out that almost 2,000 cases are diagnosed each year in guys in the U.S.:

Good point, Nick.
One thing that had me confused was another article I read earlier today about a new study on breast size, obesity and breast cancer in women. I would just assume (and probably so do many other folks) that if a gal had bigger breasts, she would be more likely to get breast c., as there is more "tissue" there in which it could start. The study concluded, however, that generally there was no link to breast size and the incidence of breast cancer, per se, b/c breast c. usually afflicts not the fatty tissue of the breast but the milk duct system itself, which does not vary that much in size from one gal to the next.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/grad.gif)
One very interesting bit of information in the study was that the reason obese women have in general a higher incidence of breast c. (as well as other types of c.) than non-obese women is due to the higher levels of estrogen in the blood of obese females.![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/omg_smile.gif)
Don't foget that our blood levels of estrogen also go up during our "honeymoon period" of WLS post-op, even in guys. I wonder if we are at increased risk of breast c., therefore, during that period?

Wow NotDave . I didn't know that ..
One thing that I wIsh Richard would discuss about his saga, but which I haven't seen, is HOW he discovered he had it. As we mentioned, it's not something we guys expect, so we don't do the self-exam or mammogram thing ....![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/surprise.gif)
