Where has the time gone?!?!?!
Hi guys,
Firstly I want to say sorry...it has been way too long since posting and even being on this amazing site!
Yesterday marked 3 years since my surgery!!! 3 years- I can hardly beleive it! So much has changed. I stared out at 310lbs on a 5'4" frame. at my lowest I was at 155lbs. Now I have been at 165lbs for the last year or so.
While recovering, I studied for my GED and earned my High School Diploma! With that and my drive to keep getting healthier, I decided to train to join the police force.
In February 2008 I applied and after interviews, psych evals, home visits...I was hired in August. I have been on patrol since January 2009 and am loving every minute.
Every time during training, when I thought the physical stuff was too much, I just thought:" There was no way I'd be doing this 2 years ago" and that gave me the boost I needed.
I have been blessed with the most amazing and supportive wife and two most beautiful daughters ever. My youngest was only 3 months old when I had this surgery, but my oldest remembers me when I was 310lbs. During the summer we were out doing something, I guess we hadnt done before, and Charlotte says: "I love my new Daddy better". That made me cry something fierce!!! I had missed out on so much when I didn't have the energy before. Now my kids have a "new" dad who no longer sits and watches from the side lines, but can get down and play right along with them!!!
I hope you all don't mind my ramblings...Just a Canadian boy, who's so happy with what God's blessed me with.
And because of my new career, we just moved into our first house after 8 years of marriage.
I hope this will be some encouragement to those considering this step.
I also want to thank those who, after my surgery, gave me such great advice. I had really started doubting my descision. I had thought I had really gone against God's design for my life, not realizing, I was detroying His creation. Thanks guys, you are Godsends.
Blessings to all
Mike

Good to hear from you. I was 10 days behind you 10/09/06. Don't worry about not checking in. In some ways it's cool...people use this site for support and information...then just go out and live life (normal life...doing normal thing...discovering a whole new world out there). Keep it up. Brian PS Just wondering...If you wanted to, could you join a Canadian military branch? In the US they still won't allow WLS people to join...police yes...military no.
For us "newbies" it's great to read a success story like yours. It gives us even more hope. Thanks for the update.
