Do you ever miss it?

This afternoon my wife and I stopped by Burger King on the way home and got a Junior Whopper with Cheese.  It smelled so good!  But, that was it, it didn't really taste good at all.  There was something on there that actually tasted bad to me.  I think it was the mustard.  We ate about 2/3 of it and threw the rest away.  Now maybe this craving will go away.

Well, first post so here goes.  I am in the waiting game stage of my wls.  One last report and things should be a go.  I have been talking with people locally, and reading this forum.  This question is what intrigues me the most.  Will I miss it.  I love eating. I hope that after the surgery I will learn to eat like a normal human.  I don't need a footlong sandwich.  I don't need that slice of pizza at 3am.  But are the cravings so bad it makes you crazy.  Thats what I worry about.

I think the mileage will vary per person.
Some people seem to do great, others don't.

I have periods of weakness where I will look at my meal and say no way is that enough food to satisfy me, or I will get a craving for something just like before and nothing will satisfy it until I eat that thing.  Other times it's all good.

It is a constant balancing act for me.  Just like dieting before, except now I have hit my goal weight and I can be physically active and burn off some of those extra calories with some serious workouts that I couldn't or wouldn't do before.

I thought I would miss Pepsi, nope not at all.  I was a major contributor to the pepsi bank account.
I miss carbs the most,  Big plate of pasta with garlic bread.  That kind of thing.

 Scott,

Not sure if you remember way back that some folks were recommending a salad "as big as your head" at least once a day? I was doing that and still had some head hunger, so back about mid summer I started eating another one for breakfast, followed by peanuts in the shell. All of that chewing, fiber and nutrients seem to have kill it. You know how most people experience a big increase in appetite as fall approaches? This year was different. My appetite has continued to decrease even as the temperature and daylight have decreased.

I know, "salad for breakfast?" But I've grown to like it.

Dave

Certainly worth a try.
I'm not a big breakfast food fan anyhow.  Well not entirely true, I do like pancakes and things like that, but I prefer afternoon and evening meals over breakfast.

Thanks

 Scott,

I know there are some health books that recommend not eating much before noon, but I think that is a big source of hunger (head? other?) in the afternoon and evening.

Boredom seems to be my big head hunger generator.
hmm what to do, I know lets eat.

At work I'm stuck at a desk so it gets bad when it's slow.
At home I just need to get up off my ass and go outside for an evening walk or something.
I keep trying to get some company to go with me, but my wife just isn't interested.  I'm lazy with that, so it's easier to just sit down and watch t.v. with her.

My wife and I are on totally different schedules and that's okay with most Japanese women. We are together a lot more on weekends. I'm usually up (without a clock) by 5:00 a.m. at the latest. So I come home and eat by 6:00. Then by 8:00 or 9:00 at the latest, I'm put to sleep by Jay Leno or some other late night comedy that I've downloaded.  If I had 3-4 hours after dinner, I'm sure I'd get bored and want to eat.

I know we're not supposed to graze, but does grazing on salad or vegetables sound appealing?

I have snack packs of carrots in the fridge.  They are pretty convenient, but that usually doesn't do the trick.  It's that hey I'm craving chocolate for example, and it doesn't matter what I eat, that feeling isn't going to go away until I have chocolate.  However something with variety might do it, so a salad might be the thing.  If the craving isn't boredom, it's probably a deficiency insomething that is triggering it.  Like a salt craving or something similar.

My preferred snack is some Fage 0% Greek Yogurt and some blue berries
If I can catch myself and stop before I make a bad food choice, then this is what I have.

Those sound like healthier options, because no matter what your surgery the sugars are likely to get absorbed and if you eat anything within the hour before bedtime, it severely decreases growth hormone production, which means increased bodyfat. So it becomes a double whammy.

One more thing that I've found helpful. In addition to what I feel is increased health consciousness, I have observed an additional decrease in appetite a day or so after doing a yoga routine (YogaX) that involves a lot of simultaneous bending and twisting. In addition to a boost in cardio fitness by temporarily limiting your lung capacity, I think these press on the internal organs and this has an effect similar to food going through your system and "touching" the fullness sensors.
