Why is it that people who have DS always seem to end up with a holier than thou attitude? "I can eat cake and you cant! Nah nah nah naaaaaaaaah nah"... Whatever...lol
Actually, I avoid processed sugars because they have no nutritional value, not because I'm worried about dumping. Empty calories like candy and chips are what got me to 450 lbs and in poor health. It's cool that you can enjoy them without guilt, whatever keeps you happy. I don't know your eating habits but I'm sure you realize that simply because you're of normal weight that does not mean that you're healthy. And while it may be true, I'm not too sure you have so much "more wiggle room" than me. Being 6'6", I have to eat a minimum of 3200 calories a day just to maintain my weight. But I make sure that I make the right choices for every one of those 3000 calories. Again, my opinion is that eating a bag of M&M's is a slippery slope and should be avoided. Regain is all too common for bariatric patients, yes, even DS'ers. Of course what you eat is your choice all together. I'm off to eat my salad, 6oz baked turkey cutlets and veggies....Take care and Have a good night!

As a DSer I have FAR more wiggle room then you, DSers only absorb about 20 percent of the fat that they eat. While anyone can regain, but statistically DSers are FAR less likely to regain. I'm only stating this fact, because you seem to be oblivious to it. At last count, I eat between 4000 to 5000 calories a day, I don't count calories, fat, carbs, or protein anymore. I take all my suppliments and eat enough protein to build a mini me...
Are M&Ms empty calories? I don't think so, food is as much about enjoyment as it is nutrition. I don't drink sugary drinks because I can get just as much enjoyment from diet drinks or water, but bitter dark chocolate doesn't do the same thing for me as good old fashion M&Ms.
Besides the chocolate is a perfect vehicle to bring the protein rich peanut to your mouth....lol.

I've ofen wished the vending machine in our office building was like 5 floors up (instead of on the same floor), b/c then I would force myself to have to walk the stairs up and down every time I wanted something out of it. I bet that would curb my enthusiasm for those goodies a bit, and even when I do inludge, have to force myself to work out to get to them!
