I was told the one about ear lobes years ago by a cardiac nurse when I was working on the ambulance. I thought it was just a load of b.s. or one of those I can tell it's going to rain by the way the leaves rattle in the trees wives tales.

That's right. I heard that in Tokyo and Osaka the police are stopping foreigners coming out of bars to check for whacky tobaccy, the Russian sumo wrestlers who were caught supposedly said, "well, those other western guys gave it to us!"
