Vitamin Question
I don't know that it would matter... from what I've learned, the vitamins are not absorbed in the pouch (or stomach obviously).
That's one reason RNY patients need to do their b12 as a sublingal cause that's normally absorbed in the stomach, but calcium and the multi are taken care of in the intestines.

You are mistaken, RNY patients do not need to take B12 sublinal. B12 is absorbed in the small intestine but does need stomach acid to be absorbed, that is why the Y is now used instead of the old stomach stapleing where the bottom of the stomach was not reattached to the system. My Mom had that and had to have B12 shots until the subligal was invented.
The problem with B12 absorbtion is that we have 2 1/2 feet less of small intestine to absorb the B12. I have taken B12 by pill form since my surgery in 2004 and have always had above average B12 in my bloodwork. Yes sublingal works, but it is not the only way to take it.

the reasons that most people do not drink with food are twofold: the fluid displaces room in the pouch for food and drinking food with a meal may cause you to flush out your system furthering your malabsorption of vital nutrients. I don't think you would have either of these problems if you had fluid with your chewable vitamins.
Because of several vitamin deficiencies ( as shown from blood work) I have to take more vitamins than most. Between my vitamins and medicines I take between 24-28 pills a day depending on pain levels. Believe me, I need to take many of them with fluid. Some of them are horse pills. I don't think I could take them without fluid even if they were smaller.
I got a set of the Bariatric Advantage Chewable vits from my surgeon for the first three months. I am one week post-op. I started them yesterday and they were palatable, didn't taste awful. But when I took the iron before bedtime (as suggested by surgeon) I had a horrible coughing fit. It was extremely painful to my tender new pouch.
I have a follow up appointment tomorrow with my surgeon. I intend to ask him what my options are. I'm thinking it would go down easier with a protein shake, but I'm not sure if that would give it proper absorption. I'll let you know what he says.
