150lbs down 7.5 months out
So I am down 150lbs now and am down to 276 if 7.5 months! still another 51lbs to go. Question for ya'll.
I'm 27 years old and for the most part of my life I have been able to get away with only having to shave once or twice a week sometimes 3 days a week since my facial hair didn't really grow too fast. Now since having my surgery and over the past few weeks I've noticed that I am getting a 5 o'clock shadow going on. Also the hair on my upper lip is finally starting to grow.
Now, is this just because I am getting older and my faternal genetics are finally starting to kick in? My dad, gramps, and uncles all have had no problem growing facial hair since they're early 20s.
Or my other theory is: Does this have something to do with my weight loss? Something like, since testosterone is a hormone that helps trigger facial and body hair growth and the release of hormones can be affected by fat cells, losing fat has caused my testosterone levels to spike and more facial hair is a result of it. I have noticed that my chest hair has become more thicker and I have more of it. My sex drive has also increased tremendously, also indicating more testosterone.
So what do you guys think? Am I way off base on my second theory?

First of all, congrats on your big weight loss. It is an inspiration.
As for the five o'clock shadow, I have a third theory.
Here it is:
Skin has a certain number of hair follicles. As you lose weight, you skin isn't as stretched, so the follicles become closer together and it looks as if you have more hair per square inch.
Just a theory.

My somewhat educated guess...and it's still only a guess is that fat cells contain estrogen. There are a lot of stored up hormones and with that kind of weight loss, especially such a rapid weight loss there will be a lot of hormonal changes.
Maybe too you're just a late bloomer? I'm almost 45 and I only have to shave maybe every other day. I'd hate to shave every day. I was in my mid 20's before I could really grow a beard.
Congratulations on your weight loss. Keep up the great work.

Congratulations, Daniel, I am 8 weeks post-op, and down 103 lbs from my high pre-op consult weight of 488. All you gentlemen give me the inspiration and I can see a possible goal like yours of 225-199 lbs.
I work from home and I only shave, so I don't give my wife razor burn.
Keep up the great journey, it only gets better.
Cheers, Bob
