OT: Tolerating life's little bumps
I am not known for my patience. So, it came as no surprise to my wife when I started losing my cool when I started to lose the picture on my TV last night. I started to swear about how much I hate DirectTV and how we seem to lose the picture whenever there is even the slightes weather event outside. Mind you it was only a little windy with no storms within hours of us. I swore I was going to call Comcast. My wife said to go ahead and just find out how much it would be without a package including phone and internet service. In the meantime, she went and checked the other TVs and they were all working.
So, the only TV with a problem is the one in my den that has a DirectTv DVR unit. I did the usual checks including resetting the unit, checking all of the cables, and removing the power cord for a minute (which often resets the unite lite doing that to a modem with the internet). Alas, nothing worked. I then called DirectTV and got a very nice technician who tried to help--it was also very nice that it was an Americal in Kentucky as opposed to some foreigner overseas who speaks English with an almost unintellible acccent. There are some jobs that companies simply shouldn't farm out). He was unable to resolve the problem and a tech will come to the house on Mon afternoon--which isn't bad considering that I called past 7:00pm on Sat. My inconvenience is in not having a DVR and in having to watch the big games on other TVs. We have guests this weekend and don't have another cental location to gather round the TV. I'll watch in my office and most of them will watch in the kitchen ( I just can't sit on hard chairs for long). I will miss copying the NASCAR race while watching the NFL. Luckily my local game starts about 2 hours before the race and the game should essentiallly be over by then considering the disparity of the opponents. I like to watch the hoopla at the beginning of Nascar races but get bored watching the actual race. I try to watch the last 30-50 laps.
I did manage to watch the games last night and just had to switch back and forth between channels.
Soon my problems will be over. I know I overreacted.

I just want to add that I do realize that this is just a minor convenience. I soon realized that many other people are dealing with much larger problems. I thank God for only giving me mostly small problems to deal with. I also thank Him for providing me with my wife who is my support in many ways. She has an immensely positive attitude and a winning smile. I have many anxieties and she doesn't have any. I don't understand that but I'm glad to have been married to her for almost 35 years.
My wife loves DirectTV and I hate it. But, DirectTV is significantly cheaper than Comcast. I didn't object at first because my parents were always pleased with their dish. I later found out that he has Dish TV. I have a friend *****tired from Verizon in Long Island and he's a champion of Verizon but it's not available down here in the sticks. Yeah, I live in a town of only 30,000 people and there are many similarly sized towns around. But, Verizon won't deal with any ot them until the richest town decides whether it wants their coverage.
Interesting, Bober ..
I was just yelling at my "always broke" brother the other day, who is paying $75.00 a month for expanded basic cable from Time-Warner Cable (we used to have Comcast in our 'burb, but they got bought out here) .. I told him that almost everyone in the condo complex has Direct T.V. now (you can see all the sat. dishes lined up, pointing the same direction toward the sky - it looks like a NASA installation or something) .. DTV is currently running a $35 a month special, and they claim they have more channels than TW Cable ..![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/furious.gif)
From what you've said, I don't know if my brother wouldn't be better off sticking with TW Cable!
