Randy and I went in for our pro op classes today. We will start the pre op diet on Sunday.

The diet is slimfast 5 to 6 times a day, and protien shakes in between if we want. We know it is going to be hard, but well worth it. Randy is expected to also quit smoking then. I am glad I don't have that to deal with. Although I may have to deal with his nervousness, and anger.

We are also going sat for our last supper. we and friends will be going out to eat lunch at our favorite asain food place, then hitting a few bars, then eating streak later that evening.

Good luck! Here are a few tips I've picked up over the years.
First, You're going to be grumpy on day three.
Second, broth or miso soup can taste really nice compared to the sticky sweet of slimfast. Makes a nice inbetween
Third, You can do this.

Liquid diet and quitting smoking at the same time.  Poor guy.

I little trick I used to teach when helping people quit smoking in the Netherlands is the use of Vitamin C. It makes the cravings a little harsher, but last for much shorter time. Vitamin C helps cleanse the blood of the nicotine. When the body senses the drop in the blood stream, it signals a want for more. Faster the drop, stronger the signal. BUT. Once the blood is clear, the cravings ease up and go away faster.

Another HUGE trick is to completely cleanse your environment of residual smoke. Clean all the clothes, wash the curtains, have the carpets shampooed, wash the walls, etc. And, change up your daily routine. If you always sit down to breakfast at the table, and have a smoke afterward, try eating somewhere else. Eat out, if you have to. Smoking is often linked to cultural sequences that we engrain in ourselves. It's like the way you have to pee as soon as you get home. Your body gets into this rhythm. Whatever you can do to break up the sequence will help stop the cultural trigger to smoke.

Wishing you much success before, during, and after the surgery.

My surgeon does not have me on the liquid diet.  They only said High protein - low carbs.  However, without a plan, I can't get myself on that track.  I was wondering what the liquid diet consisted of but couldn't find it.  Thanks for that statment.  Thinking maybe I should try it, even though it isn't required.

Thanks for all the replys and encoragement. We know it is going ot be tough, so we try to keep our eyes on the goal. Also we know that the more weight we loose before, the better our bodies will be able to handle the surgery.

My surgen explained the reason for the liqiud diet is that the liver size is redcued. Since they have to move the liver out of the way to do the surgery. By making it smaller makes the surgery easier.

I work 3:30 pm to midnight. I am debating about weather to work the full night before my surgery or not.

One thought is that being at work would be good for me, because I would not be sitting at home getting the negitive thoughs because of too much idle time. Another way I could do it is to come in 4 hours early that day and get off at 8 pm and try to get to bed early.

I dont know yet what time I will need to be at the hospital. That will play a role in my dession. I should find that out this coming friday.

What are yalls thoughts on this?

I have a feeling that your bowel prep will be the actual deciding factor in your choice.

Sugar free popsicles are a life saver on pre op diet. Usually by the second day your bowels release..  Make sure you drink a lot of water.  Crystal light helps too. You can make your own chicken broth or get some wonton soup minus the wontons..

If you start to feel dizzy/ lite headed or anything drink some Gatoraide
