Alcohol After WLS
Dear OH Members,
After WLS, alcohol can affect you twice as much as it did when you were a pre-op. OH Magazine/Newsletter would like to learn your prospective and hear about some of your personal expierences. How has alcohol affected your post-op weight loss and your ability to consume even small amounts? You can post here or email me privately if you wish to remain anonymous. [email protected]

What time is it 5 oclock somewhere yes? By the time I finish this paragraph I'll be to fricking drunk to click on the science channel and that make me angry.
I have decided I will not have blood clotting and I will sleep like a baby. A daily dose of cabernet or shiraz. I have to do a calorie offset and no leaving the house cause I wont be able to find my way home. Nothing like splaining to a cop what a drunk penguin is doing away from the zoo yes?

I heard this also Preop, so I've stayed away from alcohol for the most part after surgery. However, about 6 months ago, I was out of town on a work assignment and drank about 32oz of draft beer at a restrurant. Aside from the "bubbles" pain that I get with soft drinks also, I was DRUNK within minutes. I had to be "assisted" out by my coworkers.
No more for me.
No more for me.
Several observations:
1) Can't drink much beer any more. The fizz in the pouch prevents you from drinking at a rate which might do you some good. My potion of choice has become expensive Canadian whiskey. Yaey Canada!!
2) You feel the effects of the booze almost instantaneously. One drink and you're buzzed. It's like drinking on an empty stomach back in the pre-op days.
3) I can no longer differentiate between a 1 drink buzz and a 6 drink buzz. So I have to monitor pretty closely.
4) I don't drink often enough to affect weight loss or maintenance. Maybe a once or twice a month deal for me.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
