my eating problems have me concerned
Ok I have been getting in my protein by shake and a egg but other than that. That might be all that I eat the entire day. I have been trying to get my liquids in and have been doing pretty good. Im just concerned that I am only really eating once a day. Thats all that I feel like eating. Is this normal at 1 1/2 week out
In my opinion, you should try to eat a couple times a day. Small amounts is fine. If you really CAN'T eat, that might be another issue. But right now your body is getting used to its new stomach, and you just might not be hungry. An egg, a bite or two of refried beans, applesauce - whatever you can handle - once in the morning - again around noon, and then at dinner time. A small "meal" is better than no "meal" at all.
McReynolds. Two weeks out and facing the same issues. I have now set the following schedule for myself.
Breakfast 7am
snack 10 am
Lunch 1pm
Snack 4pm
dinner 7pm
8PM another cup of fat free milk if I'm up to it.
In between snacks, I am trying to drink 1 cup of fat free milk. It helps with Hydration and boosts protein intake.
Another thing that's helped me is to only eat REALLY SMALL amounts over a long period of time. I had 2.5 oz of turkey and gravy baby food, and 3.5 oz of green beans baby food last night. I would eat only with the very tip of the spoon and let my saliva dissolve it in my mouth before swallowing. It took me 40 mins to finish those two items. Then I wait a half hour before drinking.
Good Luck.

Tuna...Go with tuna in water...add some low fat mayo and Mt. Olive Sugar Free Pickle Relish...made with Splenda...add some salt and pepper. Good eats!! Also cook some frozen spinach in the microwave...add salt. Just a small amount to your diet, but also good for you...potassium and iron. Brian PS Add some spinach and cheese to the scrambled eggs.
Early out none of us could get in all of our meals and liquids, I don't think. Do the best you can. Over time it gets easier. Concentrate on getting in Proteins and Fluids. Fluids are critical and so protein shakes really are your best friend at first.

I have heard that surgeons do things different now, but when I was 1 1/2 weeks out I was still on full liquids. I would talk to your nutritionist and/or surgeon and get there input. At this point I would keep track of what I was getting and have a obtainable goal to shoot for. Maybe adding a snack at some point in the day, every day. Do that until it has became a habit, then make another change. The thing to remember is small changes. Don't try to do to much at once.

Like others have said, I try to drink milk every day. It helps with both my protein and my liquid intake... and you can find it or buy it almost anywhere!! I have also become a big fan of low fat string cheese (1-2 sticks per day). Also, it is a great source of protein and calcium. I also still have a least one protein shake per day as a snack. Hope this helps...
