When did you resume driving?

I had RNY Lap ten days ago and am still having my wife driving me around. I haven't had any pain klller in six days but I still feel a bit light headed.  How long after your surgeries where you back behind the wheel?

I was told that I could drive as soon as I was off pain killer.  I never took any pain killers so I was back at the wheel almost as soon as I got home.

Two things were suggested to me:  (1) be off of pain meds (never took any, so that was no problem), and (2) make sure pain and discomfort in abdomen will not slow down your reaction time.  I think I was about two weeks post-op when I started driving.

I was back driving in 5 days and would have sooner if it weren't for my wife. I would wait if i felt light headed. I never took pain meds but once after I got home

I started driving 5 days after surgery. I could have driven sooner, but there really wan't anywhere that I needed to go. I drove myself downtown through rush hour traffic for my one week follow-up with my surgeon.

I was told no driving for 2 weeks; I actually resumed at 12 days because of a medical emergency. Not mine, the wife burned herself and I had to go to the drugstore for supplies. That was a Saturday night, it went OK, so I went to church the next morning, too.

Both trips were less than 2 miles, BTW.

I was told to wait a week... and I did wait 7 days, and was back to work on day 8. I would agree with waiting at least this long, longer if you don't need to be driving.

Even if you're up to it... your abdomen is still healing, imagine the issues that could arise even from e fender bender that causes your air-bag to go off...?
