Hit a major Plateau........Need some advice

Greetings all,

I need a little advice or direction on how to break this plateau that I have been on for over a month now. Posted this on the main forum but I figured I would post it here and get a guys point of view.

I had my surgery on 02/06/09 and have lost 154 pounds since my journey began. I know that we are going to hit plateaus during our journey but I never expected it to last for over a month. I have had some issues and got off track of protein intake but am now back to over 100 grams of protein a day. I workout on my tradmill daily at a pretty intense setting (for me LOL) 2mph at a 6% incline for 30 mins with a 5 min warm up and cool down. In addition, a group of us from OH get together 3 or 4 times a week and do a walking routine of almost 2 miles.

I just need to hear from others what you have done to break the plateau. I know I had a lot of weight to lose and still 72 pounds away from my first goal. I think I have done pretty good for the first 7 months but I am getting a little concerned at this point.

Thanks in advance

Have a great day............Rick

This will break.  I track my intake on Daily plate.  It keeps me on track.  My Doc said if I stay on track I'll get to my goal..  I thought I  hit stalls but my weigh ins say otherwise.  I have lost lbs each month since WLS. I am up to 1900 cals and 85-100 proteins daily. My fluids exceed 100 oz.
For me, exercise is critical.  Treadmill 15 degrees, 3.5 mph for 40 min, Orbital 10 setting 35 resist for 40 mins, 100 crunches, 25 min on weight machines. daily 5 days.  About 2 + hrs worth.  My waist line is going down faster then the weight.  Very good. I eat right drink to much vino but if I cheat, I burn it off. I'am gonna keep this plan going for 1.5 yrs out and then take stock of my overall feeling, labs, get up and go and attitude towards food choices.
Doc said if you learn about food choices and amounts early on your chances of regain are smaller.
Good luck and the llbs will fall off.  Stay off the scales for awhile.

When I would do my regular exercise I wouldn't drop...or would drop very slowly.  When I did hard physical work my body would release the weight...Don't know why...But doing projects around the house did it!!

Almost three years out, and here's my best advice for breaking a plateau: Keep doing what you're doing, and don't break before the plateau does.

I've been on a plateau since April The latest from my doctor is to decrease my caloric intake from 1100 cal down to 800, but only if I don't get too tired, and up my protein to 120g. I'm pretty much a stubborn ******* who's gonna win. Don't break before your plateau does.

Thanks guys

Im not going to let this ******* win at all. I have come to far and worked to long to get where I am at and thats the way its going to be LOL. I listened to an un-informed nutrionist about what I should eat and how much.........Big mistake.

Most likely I amjust at a stall and my body is trying to catch up......

Thanks again

I never plateaued for more than a wee****il I had lost 200 lbs @ 11 months, so I may not be the best to answer. But when I was dropping slower than I thought I ought to I did two things: Increased my calorie intake and increased my exercise workload. The third thing that I should've done would be to increase my water intake, but by that point I was pretty sick of water and I wasn't disciplined enough to drink it anyway.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

My advice... Make sure you eat all of your meals everyday - do not skip one to cut calories.  When on a stall your body is reconfiguring - rebooting.  It needs to know it will get regular feedings so it can reset and not go into starvation mode.
