Anxiety Question - ANY advice please
Hey guys,
I posted this on the main bored but figured I'd post it here too.
I am a 26 year old male and I was wondering. Ever since the end of May I have had problems with what everyone believes is Anxiety. Here is what i have had.
I will get short of breath at random. I will get random heart palpatations and a heart rate that hits maybe 150 max. The first few have sent me to the ER where my EKG was normal, BP was like 142/86 and pulse maybe 136. Then things calm down.
I have had the following tests: Brain MRI (Got dizzy spells too), Chest and abdomen CTs, numerous chest xrays, I had an ECHO of my heart 2 years ago and my EF was 62% and normal is 55% and up is considered "Excellent" I had a 24 hour holter monitor and than a 30 day holter monitor. All normal. Had numerous lab tests. All normal. B12 was slightly low but recently came back at 509. Vitamin D is low but I'm on 5000 IU of that.
My question to ya'll is. HOW DO I I control it? My PCP has put me on 10mg of Paxil a day and its been roughly 2.5 weeks. The attacks have seemed to stopped but I still get edgy when I am in lines and stuff and this JUST happened. I was always the out going one and never thought twice about my heatlh.
Until the end of July i was working approx 65+ hrs a week and still broke. Recently I gave back my truck that I can't afford anymore since it was 600 a month. I have retained a bankruptcy lawyer and such. I have no choice. All these tests and the hospital STILL is trying to turn me over to collections even at pay 50 a month as they do not want partial payments.
I am going to Disney with the Fiance in like 45 days and want to be the old me. Can ANYONE PLEASE HELP. I just want to be the Stephen that I was back in March and April....Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

I wish I could be more help, but I want you to know you were heard. Sometimes our bodies just do wacko-crazy stuff, but I'm sure it'll get figured out.
I can maybe help in one aspect, as I used to do financial counseling for a hospital. You say you pay $50.00 per month to your hospital, but that they don't want partial payments. Have you set up an actual plan with their financial counseling department? If they try to give you **** about it, remind them that their hospital has not been able to solve the problem, and that their badgering is making it worse. Most institutions just don't want to be shut out in the dark when it comes to repayment. My .02: Work your way up the lines of stewardship in the financial department until they allow you to formalize a repayment schedule. Get it in writing. Follow it religiously. If they try to breach it, and send you to collections, take the written agreement back to them.
Other than that, God bless you. Keep your hope alive.

Well, being broke, working 65 hrs and heading for bankruptcy WILL cause stress and anxiety. This is a sure fired plan for continuing failure. You may need to find a smarter way to bring in $$$$. Going to Disney while broke will add greatly to it. Most vacations add to stress not relieve it.
Stay away from Docs and hospitals major stress areas.
When I feel stressed I go backpacking on the AP trail or fishing by myself.
Good luck

Hey, thanks for the advice. I agree with the hiking thing especially. Also, the calling the hospital I've tried but never worded it quiet like that. May be worth a shot.
Luckily with Disney, I am not paying for it. Her parents wanted to surprise her with a trip and they offered to pay for it and say it was from me as they know I am trying to get on my feet so I can take care of their daughter. Now granted I know she isn't stupid and she'll figure it out but still. Its costing them like 650 dollars for 3 days and nights and that includes on property stay and all our food and being a RNY patient that is more than enough for me...HAHA....
If I can have work stop giving me hours (they know I am broke so they have started to give me more hours). The 65 hrs a week was between a 1st and 3rd shift job so my body hated me. Luckily now I get 42-50 hrs a week all on 3rd shift which sucks at times but its one job, same hours so I can form some kinda sleeping plan.
My primary doc agrees with me about the hospital. They charged 19,000 for me just being in the OR area for 8 hrs. That doesn't include the surgeon, the anestishologist (sp) and so on. Just to physically be there. I mean DANG....And my wonderful insurance. Paid 500 bucks. I was like "are u serious"...
Anyways, thanks for the advice. It might be time to just go camping and hide from the world for a day or two. No cell, no computer. Just a tent, sleeping bag, me, the fiance (although she is not a woodsy person) and a camp fire. Now if it would just stop raining in Boone soI can hike the AT easily...LOL

have you been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder? the reason I ask is that RNYers are also known to develop reactive hypoglycemia a couple of years post op as well, and one of the symptoms (from what I understand) is a rapid heart beat. Basically, your body has trouble maintaining blood sugar levels (kind of the direct opposite of a diabetic...not exactlyh but you get the idea.
You might want to try getting our levels normal, by eating regular, high protein, low carb ..and see if that helps.
As for your hospital bills, every hospital has a credit department, and in most cases they will wave all or part of your bill if you can prove you are in financial need (ok not all hospitals but some of them do this).

I also suffer from anxiety attacks, had them for years. Even after losing close to 250 lbs. I once thought they were caused by being morbidly obese. They are definitely milder than previously, but i still get them periodically nonetheless. Ask your Dr. for a script for Xanax or Ativan, and if you feel an attack coming on while on vacation, just take one of these pills and you should be fine. tehy go to work quickly.
