I am officially training for a marathon

So I'm 6 months out and down 141lbs.  Over the past few weeks I have been running/jogging on a regular basis.  I started out with 2.25 miles, increased it to 3 miles, then 3.5, then 4.5, and now I am up to 5.2 miles in an 1 hour, 33 min 58 seconds.  Yesterday one of my friends was telling me about a marathon that is held here in the Tampa area and I decided that I shall train for it.  Today I woke up, had an 8 oz protein shake, spent an hour at the DMV getting raped by them. (license for wife and I, her name change to my last name, and registering my truck was $591), went to the batting cages, went to my softball game (got rained out in the 3rd inning), went home and stretched more, then went running for 2.5 miles out of my nice neighborhood and through the ghetto and back, didn't get mugged, thats good.  Now I am resting.  I think my running technique is off, my upper back has been getting really sore with the last few runs.  I shalll try to adjust it for tomorrows run.  Will look up some 5k, 10k, 15k etc that are sooner then the marathon.

I am going to be running in my first marathon on Feb 28th, 2010 in the Gaspirilla Distance Classic in Tampa.

Good job Daniel.  Start small and work your way up.  I'm sure you'll do great.  How far will you be running?

Your story sounds a lot like mine.  I had RNY in April, 2009 and am down 125lbs.  I'm up to doing between 5 and 10 miles of running/walking at a time.  My wife and I are going to do our first half marathon in November.  It will be 13.1 miles.  It's the Monumental Marathon in downtown Indianapolis, IN.  My ultimate goal is to do a full Ironman Triathlon.

Check out the Exercise and Fitness Forum.  There are a lot of good people on there.  They really insprie and give excellent advice.
Best wishes,
Duane

Congrats on the run. I use this site for some cool routes to ride.. have a look. Just change your area and the pull down menu on the type of training......

http://www.mapmyride.com/search   there is over 1000 routes in the tampa area for runs

all the rates in FL went up more than double in some cases a few weeks ago.. I made sure I renewed everything I could for two years the night before the change. lol the states online renewal site crashed when they spoke of the hike.

I did the two year thing also a few months back and now I have moved to PA. I think I will keep the tags till I get caught. I still have a house in FL so I could technically still live there.

I was running 2 miles a day and 7 on Fridays in the military many years ago but several injury's have kept me from running for about 15 years. If I loose the weight maybe I will at least be able to bike.

Well, be careful on the "residency" thing ..  In some states, if you live or work there (anywhere from 30 days to 6 months) you have to have a resident license.

I had a psychologist friend who moved here to Texas from Wisconsin  to start a new job ..  He happened to get pulled over outside Houston by a local county-mounty a few weeks after arriving  ...  Apparently they didn't hit it off too well (must be a Yankee vs. Suthener thing) and, after he showed his WI license, he admitted to the cop that he had been working at his new job for the last couple of months.  The cop arrested him for "driving w/o a license", he went to jail, and ended up having to hire a lawyer and bail out the next a.m.!

Texas is one of those states where you have to get a local d.l. if you live or work here for more than 30 days ..  and you have to surrender your other state's license as part of the process ..   Strange, I know ..

(btw, this past 9/1/09, the deadline was bumped up to 90 days by a new law here ..   )

Yeah I did some work for 6 months in Corpus Christi, TX and had to fight the same thing. We were working for the government so we got away with not changing our tags and stuff.
I will find out here soon enough as I live next to a local sheirff and plan on talking with him about it the next time I am in PA. Back in FL right now packing up my house.

Congrats on keeping up with your running program.  I am still only walking, but I am dreaming big.  I used to sweat like a pig when only walking about 3 mph on the tradmill.  Now I am up to 3.6 mph for 45 minutes, and I feel like I am not really even working that hard.  I am excited to hit the 4.0 mark and would love to start jogging soon.  I think the last time I ran was when I was forced to back in high school ( over 20 years ago).  I'm definitely going to have to ease into this...

Good luck with the marathon training!
