Clothes buying advice

Seconds and thirds to what everyone has suggested about thrift stores etc and not buying new all the time.  For me Tractor Supply Company (TSC) Stores were my best friends for blue jeans.  Lived in small town at the time.  Up to 54', or 56's, cheaper than regular western wear store or big man's shop.  Bib overalls came from Wal-Mart along with 2x t-shirts.  Now it is 34 waist shorts, or 36 regular cut jeans, with large shirts and they are falling off of me!  Was family joke with my ex-wife and others that it had been over twenty years since I wore dress shoes with colored socks.  Bought some when I bought new suit last November.  FYI:  it has been to a Men's Wearhouse to be taken in already!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Yes. I shop KingSize Clearance.. and look for deals on free shipping.  But As fast as I am changing sizes. The thrift store sounds like a great idea.

I did all of my shopping at the local good will or salvation army stores during my rapid weight loss phase.  You'd be surprised what you can find there at a really good price.  The only thing I could never really find were decent blue jeans. I bought those off e-bay at pretty good prices.  Even now that I have maintained my weight for about 9 months now I still find myself going to the thrift stores looking for clothes rather then the regular stores.

To answer your last question first, I've found that most stores go up to size 48. Some regular stores will go higher, but 48 seems to be the top end in most places.

I had my surgery in May and have dropped one size every 3-4 weeks. So far, I have been using clothes that my were put into storage when I outgrew them. That is about to end. I've gone from a size 54 to a size 48 and those are beginning to become loose. I wore size 48 when we moved into our house 10 years ago, so I know there is nothing left. My wife has already hinted that I need to start checking out the thrift stores. Fortunately, we live in a large city so there are plenty of options

Another source you may want to consider is www.haband.com. Their pants are dirt cheap and they will come in the length you need. They have a clearance section with dress pants for $6.99. I had several pairs in my "collection" and they weren't bad. I will probably get more if I get in a bind and can't find what I need in the thrift store.

When I had the surgery, I bought from a retail store a couple of function items - blue jeans, shirts, etc, one size too small, then wore them for some time until they became too baggy.

I know the idea of wearing one or two outfits doesn't sound okay, but you'll grow out of them soon enough.

For me, I haven't been to the thrift stores yet, i may have to try that.

But I'll buy pants & shirts maybe like once a month, and by the next month they are too big.  I wear them until they look ridiculous though....Once I start to look like a clown, then it's time to buy some more.  for some reason, my waist is where i'm losing all my weight right now, my stomach still seems on the big side, but my pants have gone from a 52 to a 40, and i think i may be down to a 38, but I haven't been ina store in 3 weeks, so i'm not exactly sure.  It's very expensive, and i'm only about 4 months out.  Haivng a mom who is a seamstress also helps, she can "take in" my pants a little to save me a little time before haivng to shop again, but there's only some much she can take in, then you have to buy new ones.  Luckily my job has been on casual dress down all summer and it will continue until columbus day, that way I can buy polo shirts and tshirts that are much cheaper than dress shirts.  That way I can buy more shirts when I need to w/out going totally broke, whereas, if I had to keep buying dress shirts over the past 4 months, It would have been much more expensive.

I stopped by a thrift store today and bought a pair of pants for three bucks. The place was jammed and I didn't have more time to shop. I'll have to keep looking around. Thanks for all the advice.
