Major F.A.R.T. for DANCBJAMMIN.
I wanted to let you guys know about one of our O.H. men and what he's doing today. Dan Benintendi is in the process of competing in his first Ironman Triathlon today. He's finished the 2.4 mile swim, and the 112 mile bike ride. Right now he's probably about 1/3 of the way through the 26.2 mile run. Dan had RNY on 01/14/08 and weighed around 400lbs at the time of surgery.
Needless to say Dan has trained like a madman possessed. He's set such a fine example of what you can do when you put your mind to it. In my opinion he's doing something that can make all of us proud. Yesterday my wife and I drove down to Louisville and had the pleasure of meeting Dan, his wife, and his son. They are genuinely nice people.
Check out his profile and check out some of his postings on the Exercise and Fitness Forum. If you want inspiration you'll have to look no further.
Congratulations Dan, you've made us all proud.

While I'm very happy for Dan (a fellow Texan, no less
) .. I'd like to comment about the "madman possessed" thing while we're at it, esp. for members not as young as Dancer ..
Please be careful out there - gents - about pushing oneself TOO hard, esp. less than 2 years out from WLS ..
Keep in mind that, although our weight may now be a lot less, we still have the same clogged arteries, diabetic damage, high blood pressure damage, etc. that our bodies have suffered from for many years prior to our WLS .. I wouldn't advise anyone go out full tilt right after their surgery without a complete cardiovascular evaluation (e.g. stress test, chest x-ray, echocardiogram, etc.) before doing so ..
It would be so ironic to lose weight to get in shape, onlly to have something disastrous happen to you right afterward in the process of enjoying your achievement .
