Bikrim Hot Yoga
Hello to all:
I took my first Bikrim Hot yoga class 3 1/2 Months ago. It was the most profound " mind / body" experience of my life.
A quick review:
90 Minutes in a room heated to 95-105 degrees; with 60-70% humidity. Perform 28 Postures
( asanas ); led by an instructor speaking and directing class; no talking during class; looking at yourself in the front mirrors at all times; a 90 minute open eyed meditation.
I recommend it for the following reasons ( in no particular order):
1. Post WLS I am always "freezing"; I love the heat
2. It is called a "practice" because we never get it perfect; just small improvements
3. Looking at myself in the mirror has developed a better healthier " acceptance" of who I am; not who I think others see me as or I wished I was
4. I exercise only in skimpy shorts in a co-ed environment; shirtless for the first time in my life.
5. In the 90 minutes I forget about the outside world ; I go inward; real hippie stuff like: Knowing my truth ; forgiving myself and others ; testing my physical and emotional limits.
6. The sweating detoxifies my body; ridding it of toxins and waste.
7.The women in class:
a. Very little clothing
b. All shapes and sizes
c. Don't care about hair and make up
d. Generally down to earth and healthy
8. It is the hardest exercise I have ever done; I get stronger from the inside out; building core fitness ; balance; flexibility; stamina ; and emotional harmony.
9. Counter intuitive on its face: the more often I do it the LESS SORE I am.
10. It makes me feel fantastic; physically ; emotionally and spiritually.
Would love feedback of fellow men

I've heard it's excellent exercise, and that doing yoga in that heat is beneficial to your whole body. I'm glad you found something you like to do.
Scott
PS I know all about being cold post op, I moved from NY to texas to escape the cold, and while others said it's the hottest summer in a very long time, I'm enjoying the 100+ degree days.

I was gonna ask if this is the nude men's yoga thing (yes, they have a class like that in downtown Dallas
), but then I saw the "women" thing .. (hmmmm "very little clothing" .. that sounds "motivating" ..
)

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

Duane:
In my opinion ( ha ha ha ); In my experience ( now that's better ); as our bodies return to a healthier state; our options are unlimited.
However: it took me 3 yrs post surgery to find an exercise regimen that rocked me and got me excited.
I went to personal trainers ( twice ); and they got me sore sore I could not walk for days.. I never went back.. started bike riding; took spinning classes; really liked it a lot. In fact it was a buddy in spinning class that turned me on to Hot Yoga.
I guess my rambling answer is; do what is best for you in YOUR time; listen to your inner voice; you can trust it again.
