I was told not to drink them for at least 3 to 6 months after surgery.  When I did try them they tasted horrible to me.  This is coming from someone who drank a lot of diet soda before surgery.

you have to make them flat to drink it.. i did this before surg cause i dont like soda that much. put some in a empty bottle and shake the **** out of it, stopping to release the gas by opening the top do it till it doesnt hiss anymore

I've been told not to drink anything carbonated - and have kept to it. Was told it hasthe potential to stretch out the pouch.

I drink a lot of Crystal Light and Iced tea.

At 3 months out the NUT told me it's OK to have diet pop if you either get the fizz out or drink it very slowly in small quanities.  I drink one or two 4 to 6 oz servings a week (with lots of ice in it).  I sip, sip, sip.  A small serving is enough for me now.  Before wls I could easy drink 16 to 20 oz serving at a time and in just a few minutes.

Some days its just not worth waking up and chewing through the leather straps

I fill the blender with diet 7-Up and pulse it for a while before letting 'er rip.

It's funny HOW MUCH carbonation is in solution. It took way more blending than I expected to get it flat! Then I pour it back into the empty 2-liter bottle and chill it in the fridge.

Not ideal...but I sometimes get crazy-bored with what I'm eating and drinking and need some variety!

I was told not to, but I have had a couple of beers in the last year. Drank them very slowly and didn't have any problems. I haven't had a soda in 3 years. I use to drink it for water. Figure if I start back I will eventually be back where I was prior to surgery.

I do and have for 3 years. I love diet Red Bull; diet Rockstar and generally all diet energy drinks.

90% of what I drink is water ( non carbonated ); Always speak with your Dr.; if you decide to test the waters" listen to your body".

What works for me may not work for anyone else; be good to yourself !

I'd say it depends on what your doctor says, and the type of surgery you had. I had the DS, and there is no restrictions on having soda, so I drink it. Honestly, I drink a bit too much and am in the process of trying to cut back because I'm drinking 64 oz of diet coke a day.....ugh that stuff is so addictive.

What type of surgery, and how far out are you?
