Follow-up on meds and WLS
A while back we had a discussion on what kind of meds/pills were most effective for RNY and I mentioned I would talk to my PCP at my next appointment. That was this morning.
Basically, she reiterated what we heard in that previous thread - no NSAIDS, and no time-release. She went on to say that different meds in different formats (pill, capsule, caplet, etc.) are designed to dissolve at different places in the intestine as a result of the pH level needed to cause the dissolving. The impression I got is that a competent PCP or specialist will take those factors into account when prescribing the type of meds to treat any given situation, and that there really isn't much for me to be proactive about other than making sure that any doc I see is aware of my RNY procedure.

Since you know of the restrictions on the NSAIDS and no time-release meds, I suggest that you bring that up anytime a doctor goes to prescribe meds for you. Most docs check your charts and their references to make sure that combinations of meds will not have adverse effects. I've found that most are not aware of our medication problems with our various WLS surgeries. I have to remind my shrink everytime I see him that I can't take time-release meds.
