Give me your pre-op diet!!!
Hello my fellow length-gainers! (You know what I'm talkin' 'bout)
I need some idears. I've got to start my pre-op diet on Monday. I'm getting my sleeve on the 31st. My doc, he grabbed my elbow right before I walked out of my appointment with him back in June and said he wants me on either liquids or Atkins 2 weeks before surgery. I assume he wants me to drop a few pounds and shrink the ol' liver. I asked if I could mix it up, shakes during the day and a protein meal at night and he said that should work.
So, I mention this to my NUT (see previous thread on her exquisite hotness), and she kind of gives me a blank look and says people usually have more luck with liquids than the Atkins. I was hoping she had like a meal plan or something but apparently my doc doesn't do a lot of pre-op diets, so she wasn't really that helpful.
So, who had a pre-op diet and what did you do? Did you shrink your liver? Anybody have any negative liver experiences? I know this is one of the worst parts of the surgery, but I can handle it. I just want to minimize as many risks as I can, with as little pain as reasonable.

My Doctor and NUT put me on what they called a modified liquid diet. Here's what they gave me:
Pre – Surgical Dietary Restrictions
Once surgery is scheduled – Protein Diet: Immediately start a protein diet (high protein, low carbohydrate and low fat). You may use a modified version of the “Atkins" or “South Beach" diet as a guideline. Follow the basic principles of either of these diets for high protein, low carbohydrate food choices, but limit fat intake.
Protein Diet: ·
Most lean cuts of meat products (beef, pork, chicken) · Avoid high fat processed meats (sausage, hot dogs, etc..) ·
Most grilled or broiled fish · Avoid any fried foods ·
Low fat or fat free cheese and cottage cheese ·
Non starchy vegetables (avoid: potatoes, peas, corn, and winter squash) ·
Start limiting carbohydrate intake: breads, pasta, rice, fruit, milk and yogurt.
Two weeks prior to surgery - Liquid Protein Diet: Replace two meals per day with high protein liquid shakes. Continue to follow the protein diet mentioned above for one meal per day. It is important to follow this diet closely to adequately shrink the size of the liver. Part of the liver is in front of the area were the pouch is made and must be held out of the way during surgery. This is difficult if the liver is too large.
Protein drinks:
Slim fast high protein
Myoplex Lite (Low Carbohydrate) – 30 grams per 17 oz.
MET-RX protein plus – 46 grams protein
Atkins low carb shake mix – 20 grams protein
Boost high protein beverage – 15 grams protein per 8 oz
Glucerna
Boost glucose control
Carb solutions high protein beverage – 19 grams protein
Extreme pure protein – 44 grams protein for 22 oz
Any whey protein powder mixed with calorie free beverage
Zero carb Isopure drinks and shakes
The day before surgery – clear liquid & minimum 8 hour fast: Follow the clear liquid diet for the day prior to surgery. Do not have any food or beverage after midnight the night prior to surgery. Not even water!!!!!

Mine was simple -
4-1/2 cans of low carb Slim-Fast
or
5-1/2 packets of low carb Instant Breakfast
I did the Slim-Fast, and by drinking it slowly at meal times, I really, REALLY felt satisfied. And I was having chocolate at every meal!!! :-)
But if I needed a snack (or dessert), I was allowed sugar free jello or sugar free pudding.
Also could do the low-cal drinks (crystal light, etc) but was off carbonation.
It's only two weeks - but it will be the best two weeks of your life, because you know what's coming on the other side! Good luck with the prep and the surgery.

Sorry about the confusion. It was four and a half cans daily. That amount is what came close to 800 calories, which was the stated goal. For me, I did not have the option of any solid foods; only liquids. I did substitute some EAS drinks for a little variety but stayed under the 800 liquid calorie plateau.
5 Whey Protein Isolate shakes a day
80oz water
Homemade low sodium Chicken broth
SF Jello
SF Jello Pudding
SF Popsicles
Crystal lite
I was on this for 6 weeks so I know You can do 2. If you are doing full liquids, I would start this on a Sat. this way you are near a toilet when your ass throws up. Your system will be clean, squeeky clean..

I'm in the middle of a two-week all liquid pre-op diet. 11 days to go. Doc has me on Optifast shakes x 5 daily + water. Optifast tastes decent (though Slimfast is better, IMO), but it is chunky and hard to mix without a blender. I have to slam it to get it down. Yeech.
Looking forward to soft food. I just about popped a tent when I saw a banana yesterday.
